What did we learn?

Elias and I spent the weekend in Grand Marais this weekend, and it was lovely. We did manage to get lost in the woods and end up, luckily, back at the highway. Unfortunately, we were also three miles from the car at that point, which was not an impossible distance, but considering we'd just been hiking for two and half hours, not awesome. Luckily (and yes, I realize this is starting to read like one of those old "fortunately/unfortunately" stories), Emily and Jared were in Grand Marais this weekend as well, so they bailed us out with a ride back to the car. We weren't, I should specify, really, truly lost, we just took an unmarked side trail and got away from where we meant to be. If all else had failed, we would have been able to backtrack and get to where we needed to be. Just so you don't attribute slightly more foolishness to our mistake than it really deserves. Ahem. Anyway, the weekend was excellent. We enjoyed the beautiful woods and rivers, had a lovely time in Grand Marais at Artist's Point, and had delicious meals for the entire stay, not to mention simply enjoying each others' company. It was nice to get to spend long, relaxing hours together after the craziness that Elias's job has been. Being in love with your husband - I recommend it.

Before too long we'll have another trip for Emily's wedding, and then it'll be Thanksgiving and Christmas. I like this time of year for things to look forward to.
