Animal Friends Chronicles #2

So I am a bit late updating, but I had a second memorable day with Animal Friends this Saturday. I volunteered with the Pet Mobile at Petsmart in Bridgewater Falls. I became interested in going out with the Pet Mobile after meeting Jim in obedience class with Daphne. He is a huge volunteer at the shelter and fosters something like 10 dogs at a time for the shelter. He is in charge of the Pet Mobile so I wanted to help him out. He probably doesn't even know my name aside from being "Daphne's Mom," but he is a really incredible person, almost like the Dog Whisperer.

Anyway, I met them at 10am. I was assigned Wycliff for the day. Wycliff has been at the shelter for awhile and was even featured on their homepage as one of the dogs of the month. He is a big guy and a mix between a Lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback. Wycliff had a Cleft Pallet and had to have an expensive surgery to repair it. The surgery had to be funded through donations, so he was a really special dog. I walked him around the shopping complex and talked to so many people about him. Three families seemed really interested in him, but not so interested that they would adopt him right then. About fifteen minutes before we packed up ship though, one of the the families came back to ask how long we would be there. They wanted to bring their golden retriever back to see if she would get along with Wycliff. We ended up meeting back at the animal shelter to see how they would do. Wycliff, or course, pooped right in front of the family, not really helping his chances. I was so excited when they decided to take Wycliff home and try him for 24 hours. It wasn't as guaranteed adoption, but it was pretty awesome. So, I eagerly awaited to see if today, when they had to make a decision, if Wycliff would be off the adoptable pet list.

Sure enough, Wycliff was taken off petfinder.com! My family must have fallen in love with him and he now has a new home! My first Pet Mobile experience was an outstanding success. I will definitely be going out with them as much as a I can. The experience was great and I felt like I really accomplished a great thing! Here's a picture of Wycliff, who I'm sure has a new name and a wonderful new home!
