Johnny Ramone died last night. That's pretty much it for the original members, well besides Tommy or Richie, but they don't count. Johnny always seemed like the asshole of the group, but his guitar playing made a huge impact on me when I was younger. Its even safe to say that without the Ramones I wouldnt have even picked up a guitar. It's a cliche I know but when I heard their songs, how it was just three chords bashed out as fast as humanly possible, I figured that anyone could write and play meaningful music. But not everybody could play those songs with the same finesse as Johnny, in fact, nobody can. Maybe it's childish for me to get so bent out of shape over the death of someone I never met, and a former rockstar at that. But what he, Dee Dee, and Joey created changed my life and saved my soul. Got me through my teen years in a little bit better shape than I would have been. It was important to me, and it still is.
