Who: Zelos (
gigolo_miko) and Sheena (
not_a_banshee)
What: SHEELOS. Sheena giving Zelos her answer. They are now ~*dating*~. Zelos is going to be unbearably obnoxious for the next, like, two weeks.
When: Last night-ish. After
this.
Why: Why not? Because Tomato and I are the biggest shipfags you'll ever meet. And it's not totally obvious we've been working towards this for months, I don't know WHAT you're talking about, stop giving me those looks.
Where: At a random
House of Guidance (basically an inn, shut up, I know that image is from Knight of Ratatosk) somewhere in Tethe'alla. Probably on the Meltokio continent since they just dealt with Shadow.
Notes: Okay, the thread on Sheena's journal probably requires some explanation. We had both planned to have their backstory come out more naturally (i.e., Bob's truths), but it just didn't work out that way. So: there's a rumor in the fandom of a trading card that states it's canon fact that Zelos and Sheena dated once for a little while, before the game begins. Working off of that, Tomato and I developed a chronology wherein Zelos joined Cruxis when he was about seven, and started dating Sheena when he was 18 and she was 15. Two years later, Lord Yggy had Zelos go through the angel transformation, and he broke up with Sheena, basically by telling her he was bored and all he really wanted was a good time. So. YEAH.
Also, let it be said that Tomato and I seem to be absolutely APPALLING with logs. We never finish them. That this one got done within, like, two or three hours is a miracle on par with the birth of baby Jesus. |D
The sun was going down and it was starting to get chilly, but Zelos sat outside the House of Guidance, perched on the wooden fence that ran around most of the property. They'd run into a bit of trouble a mile or two back with some nasties, and everybody had been so exhausted that, when they chanced across the House a couple of hours after midday, the decision to stop there for the night had been unanimous.
After a fresh lunch (fresher than the usual sort of fare at roadside stops, courtesy of one Chosen's name), Zelos had retreated outside. Ever since their conversation on her journal, he and Sheena hadn't talked much. For the past couple of days, Zelos's usual level of overwhelming, obnoxious confidence had been failing him around her--and for her part, Sheena hardly met his eyes, usually blushing when she did. It was getting to the point where the others were starting to give him dirty looks and the cold shoulder (not Colette or Genis--Genis always gave him dirty looks and the cold shoulder), and he had the creeping feeling that Raine was going to corner him soon and beat some answers out of him if he didn't 'fess up of his own will.
Sheena had just refinished checking up on their inventory with Raine, concluding they needed a few more apple gels before quickly fleeing the room. Raine was sure to inquire about why she'd been so skittish lately. It had, unfortunately, also been affecting her in battle--on the frontlines, Lloyd's swords had saved her more often than was comfortable. It wasn't her fault the stupid Chosen had decided to be honest now of all times, telling her things that sent her mind into confusion (and although she'd never admit it, made her heart skip a beat).
She'd literally been thinking about the whole situation almost every second of the day. It was annoying that he was eating up her thoughts like that, in a way she wasn't sure she ever wanted again. What annoyed her most, however, was the choice she was leaning towards, as scared and worried as it made her. Letting out a grumble, she shoved open the door and walked outside, only to freeze in place when she saw the source of her troubles sitting idly on the fence.
Zelos looked up when he heard a sound before him, and saw Sheena halted across the yard. He offered a half grin. "Hey there, hunny~. Come to join me? Well, you're in luck, 'cause I've saved you a seat!" he said, patting his leg and laughing. Unfortunately, this unbalanced him, and he flailed briefly before righting himself. "Whoa!"
Sheena tried to hide her amusement as he fell off balance. Hesitantly, she did walk over towards him, leaning opposite of him against the fence. They had to talk sooner or later. "No thanks. I'd rather not end up on the ground."
"Are you sure~~?" he teased slyly. "It's probably the softest seat you'll find out here without dirtying yourself up more on the ground. 'sides, I don't know what you just saw, but my balance is impeccable."
She didn't look at him, but she could feel her face heating up. "What I saw was you almost falling. A-and I'm fine here anyway."
Zelos quirked an eyebrow at her, and shrugged. "Your vision must be going. But if you're absolutely sure. So," he pronounced, "what can I do you for, hunny?"
Sheena found herself really enjoying the way the ground was looking. "Um."
He leant forward and peered at her curiously, long, red hair half-falling over his shoulder. "Sheena?"
"I-I've been… thinking. A lot. About--um, well, y-you know," she muttered, hugging her stomach. Why did have to look at her like that now?
"Well, that's good," Zelos said, affecting a lofty tone. He felt his gut twist. "I kinda hoped you would be."
"I think the reason it… hurt as much as it did was because…" Oh god, was she really going to admit this? This was not her normal self. "I… Um. Really did… have feelings for you. And then when it ended the way it did… I just sort of figured… I should push them away." Her face was undoubtedly cherry red. She sank down to the ground, not sure she could trust herself to stand anymore. "And… to have you say… what you did…"
Zelos watched her quietly. Hearing her say all that... Well, he knew he'd been a pretty righteous asshole back then--hell, he still was now, pretty much, especially if you asked his sister--but hearing Sheena say it aloud to him was like a slap to the face. "Yeah..." he sighed. "But I told you...what I said that time, I didn't mean it. I'd have to be crazy to be sick of you."
He paused, and the corner of his lip quirked up as he added, "Well, I'm probably pretty crazy, anyways, considering I'm on this little save-the-world campaign."
Her blush deepened, if even possible. "I-I know… that's why… I. Maybe I never… I don't know why…" She stole a quick glance up at him before turning back to the grass. "Maybe I didn't… push them away as much as I thought I did… And when you told me... that..." she mumbled.
Something very like hope was starting to burst through Zelos. He scooted off the fence and dropped quietly onto the grass, crouching down so they were on level. "That being the conversation we had a coupla days ago?"
Sheena tensed at the sudden close proximity, but nodded, finally looking at him the eye. "…y-yeah. That." A strange sense of panic overtook her, and she lost eye contact yet again. "Um. I… you. Meant it. All of it." It was a half question; she was mostly asking for more reassurance.
"Every word," he confirmed with a nod, even if she didn't see it. "Wouldn't've said it if I didn't. I've lied a lot and, yeah, I'll admit I'm full of crap a lot of the time, but I was telling the truth."
She was going to die of embarrassment. There was no other way to put it. "If… if that's the case. Then. Then maybe… maybe we could. T-try again…"
Zelos let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding and threw his arm around her shoulders, slumping against her with a laugh. "Y'know, I like good news. It tends to make my day."
Sheena looked at him, this time not looking away just as quickly. She was pretty sure her face was stained with a permanent blush. "But… Don't expect me to just… I dunno. Do things… differently or whatever. I… I want to take this. Slow. I guess."
"That's fi~i~i~i~ne, doesn't ma~a~a~tter," Zelos sing-songed, pulling Sheena to her feet and twirling her around like an idiot.
Sheena glared at him, only halfheartedly trying to get him to stop. "You're an idiot…" she mumbled.
"Maaaaybe," he conceded, giving her a peck on the cheek. "But you can't deny my stunning brilliance and devilish good looks, so it all evens out in the end"
She pushed his face away. "You're still an idiot."
