Food and Art in Boston

This weekend was definitely a food and art weekend.

My buddy who lives in Paris and is half-French/half-Fil visited me. She is definitely into art and is working in the industry , hopefully to become a curator someday.

I hadn't seen her in 4 years and it was a good time for us to catch up with me being free from work constraints.

We visited 4 museums, 3 restaurants (for restaurant week) plus some, and a smattering of tourist sites, all in 3 days.

We went to the Museum of Fine Arts, Institute of Contemporary Art, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and Harvard Fine Arts Museum. I got in all 4 for free since I was...ahem, 17. Kids under 18 get in for FREE.
That's right. I avoided paying $15-$20 each by looking like a kid. I pretended that my friend was my big sister who also got in for free since she had a press pass. YEY FOR US.

Here are some of the works that inspired me over the week:

The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit by John Singer Sargent

I really liked the serene look of the youngest daughter's face. Looking at her made me really relaxed. She looks like a doll and her eyes pop out so much. I stood in front of that painting forever.

"Houses at Auvers" by Vincent Van Gogh

I will never forget Mrs. Eala as she instilled in me the interest for art and Van Gogh. Prior to getting in her class, I didn't really like art. Now I can name so many, Monet, Manet, Degas, Picasso, Pisarro, Botticelli, etc.

I'm not into the whole Red Sox scene but this caricature/photo/poster really rocks.

Here's an exhibition at the ground floor of MFA. I forgot the name of the artist since I didn't write it down. OOPS.

Harlem Jazz by Norman Lewis

I got new wellies!!!! YEY!!!!
They're Aigle boots. My friend Alice was the deciding factor on this one. For a while we were just thinking that she would buy it in Paris since she thought it might be cheaper and we would just ship it. We were converting for a while until we decided that shipping costs from France would just equalize the price. I now blame her for my empty pockets for this week. They are freaking awesome though and can't wait to wear them. I am sending my red wellies home.

On more restaurant week photos, round 2 was at Upstairs on the Square in Cambridge, MA.
Here were my choices:
1) Chilled Cucumber Melon Soup, Cumin Yoghurt and Mint Oil - no picture. I'm not a fan of cold soup. The only reason I chose this was the other choice was Fruit in two ways and I don't eat fruit. Good flavor though.
2) Georges Bank Cod, Ratatouille, Tapenade and Rustic Tomato Sauce

This was really good!!! The cod was cooked perfectly, crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. Mmmmm.
3) Chocolate Financiers, Pistachio Anglaise and Bittersweet Chocolate Saucea href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/bratney/2780378090/" title="Chocolate Financiers, Pistachio Anglaise and Bittersweet Chocolate Sauce by gigiv, on Flickr">

This one was good although sadly, the best financiers I've tasted still go to Clio. I guess the chocolate made the dessert heavy and I didn't really eat a lot so I definitely had lots of space for this.

We ate in two other restaurants for restaurant week, Oceanaire and L'Espalier but we were so hungry, we ate it so fast and forgot to take pictures.
