I waited a month and a half for the opportunity to eat at
Clio . People I've talked to have been giving me rave reviews about it so when my dad told me he was coming to visit, I finally made a reservation.
I ate there tonight...and we almost missed our reservation. Stupid me did not anticipate the Red Sox game so the station was totally packed. I should really check on the schedule of games even though it pains me to go on the website so I don't get inconvenienced and irritated.
When we got there, the A/C of the restaurant wasn't working. Bad sign. My dad walked out and I looked pathetic and begged for him to just withstand the heat and eat there with me. After all, it's my birthday on Tuesday. That's all I asked for my birthday, for us to continue our reservation so we sat there and ordere
My dad got Garretson Wine Company Syrah "The Aisling", Paso Robles. I'm not a big fan of Syrah wines as they are too powerful for my liking but I wanted to reall acquire the taste for Syrah so I suggested ordering a half bottle so that I could drink too instead of ordering Pinot Noir wine like I was thinking for my duck.
I decided to get the Globe Artichoke Anchoyade to start. I'm a big fan of artichokes even though they're a bitch to prepare so I thought this would be a good one. It was good, flavors went well. I especially liked the crispy salad (crispy dill) with the soft, melt-in-your-mouth artichoke. This dish lacked the oommph to blow me away. Personally, I would have liked the artichoke hot but there was probably a purpose for that artichoke to be served room temp which my little brain has not discovered yet. It looked wonderful on my plate though.
Does that look scrumptious or what? Overall, wonderful presentation, good flavors, but lack the intensity.
I got the Roasted Muscovy Duck as my entree. I picked this duck since I first saw the menu last March. It was called Black Licorice Roasted Muscovy Duck with Fennel Bulb, Rutabaga and Candied Pomelo. Flavors went well. I guess I was expecting the duck to be a little bit juicier? I don't know. This is not confit though so perhaps I was setting the bar too high. Overall, it was okay as well. Again, lacked the intensity to blow me away. Still looked scrumptious. Points on presentation, textures and seasoning. It didn't go well with the wine as expected. The wine definitely overpowered the duck. I should have trusted my instinct and went for the glass of a lighter red, like a Meritage or even a Pinot Noir.
My poor dad didn't like both his choices. He started with a Salad of Mesclun with Crisp Vegetables, Herbs and Flowers with Goat Cheese and Vinaigrette. I didn't even bother trying it because it looked blah. I mean, it's mesclun greens. How interesting can it get?
He had the Braised Kobe Brisket. Seasoned well, good flavors, kind of blah for me. Could be more tender and braised a little more. But maybe that's how Chef Ken Orringer wants it.
Anyway, the drum roll goes to.....Beurre Noisette Financier which was my dessert. I could devote paragraphs to this dish as I consider it to be the best dessert of my life. Yes, even better than Dark Chocolate Souffle (which is my all-time favorite dessert) and even better than the Hazelnut Parfait at DB Bistro Moderne. Beurre Noisette Financier is basically Vanilla Shortbread with Hazelnut Toffee, Miso Banana Cream and Frozen Chocolate. OMG, the vanilla shortbread was heaven. I could eat it on its own. It had that same texture in brioche which I love in babas. I ate the shortbread with the Miso Banana Cream.....HEAVEN. I love that Miso Banana Cream. I'm gonna make it myself.
SEE FOR YOURSELF!!!!
I shared with my dad but I wanted to hoard that whole dish to myself. I could have ordered another one and he would have let me but that would be gluttony. I will just go back and try the others and have the same dessert. I'll drag other people with me so I can try the other desserts.
I could eat my monitor right now, seriously.
AHHHHHHH....chalk up another foodie experience. More tomorrow.

See why Red Sox Nation is insane. See why I hate drunk people hurling and missing me by inches because of baseball. This is Ateneo vs. DLSU after game chaos, times infinity.
