Normally when I watch miniseries based on real life situations, especially in music, but this was so well done. It was fantastic. The acting was amazing, and even if most of the stories in this were exaggerated, I have to say that this really did pin point the problems with bands and their members in the music industry.
Originally the miniseries was recorded for NBC, but it is aired on VH1 for the entire four hours (tv time). Oh my God, it is good. I couldn't stop watching it today. And I didn't even see it from the beginning.
You have everything that needed to be raised for awareness in the music industry such as what the proper borderline between selling out or paying the bills. With bands you can completely sell out and become what you were never about or you can pay the bills with certain singles yet still make songs which your group is meant to entertain with. There are also extreme stories of drugs and alcohol, what responsibilties band members have, and deciding how far you are willing to go to keep your personal life and your band business with you.
So here's a brief bio about this band, and I hope you get interested because this is really important information that should be passed on to anyone who is interested in music and the business. For those who are not so familiar with it, it's a great way to see into a glimpse of all the work put into creating albums and planning concerts.
The Temptations was a very powerful Motown group which survived through the times of change with the racial barrier between blacks and whites. The cool thing about the miniseries is that it touches upon the era; however, it doesn't turn the entire miniseries into a whole message of the color barrier but just about the music and the group in general.
This band ended up with having only one member alive. The originals died from drunken suicide, lung cancer, brutal murder (involvement with the drug underground), and a coma. Another big issue brought up in awareness was the difference between out shining the group and staying within it.
I'm not suggesting this because it is a good form of entertainment when you're bored but I just want to suggest this because of the high level of awareness shown in many difficult patterns of life not just in the music industry but outside as well.
