Interesting story, though I am curious.

I assume that Burt is keeping Kurt at home, and away from other people; or do they live in the middle of nowhere, and thus there is no-one for him to interact with.

They live just outside of Lima, so houses are sparse but Kurt doesn't leave his home/yard and that's the way Burt wants it.
