IQALUIT - The wildlife office in Iqaluit is warning campers that a bear was spotted near near the mouth of the Sylvia Grinnell river Monday morning.
Wildlife officer Alden Williams says the bear was chased off into Frobisher Bay.
Officers will now chase it further down the bay by boat.
Williams is warning campers and others not to go looking for the bear.
It is the same bear that was spotted Sunday, swimming towards the city.
Williams says on that day it had just left an area where it appeared to squash a tent. There was no one at the campsite at the time.
"This bear was a skinny bear so it is a hungry bear is how I'll describe it," he says. "It's not a big bear and if it comes around camps it can be a very nuisance bear or a problem bear."
Williams says it's not unusual to spot a bear close to camps and communities during the summer months when the bay is ice free.
