Christmas is so much fun. Today, I hummed little Christmas-esk songs at Sam's, after making my mom push me around on the flatbed cart. (Hey, I picked up the extremely heavy box for her, she could at least push me around in the cart for a few minutes.)
Tonight, I put on my elf hat and wrapped many gifts. The first was the extremely heavy present for my dad that we got at Sam's. Imagine, if you will, trying to tape wrapping paper while manhandling a very large, very heavy box. Now, do that in my very small bedroom. It was an adventure. Then, I wrapped the smaller gifts. It was, by far, much easier and more fun.
I also talked to Brooke by phone. She was at home teaching her siblings to play MaJung (spelling?), so we didn't talk long.
By the way, is it just me, or is anyone else humming songs from various Christmas commercials. It got so bad last week that I started putting my hands over my ears and humming loudly when the Old Navy commercials aired. I watch entirely too much TV. I really need a job.
I read an interesting article in today's (Tuesday's) Daily Journal. Apparently, to be able to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Mississippi, hourly wage-earners must make $9.79, well above the minimum wage. The 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico were ranged from 1 to 52 (1 being lowest).
Mississippi was 5th. The six highest were: District of Columbia, $22.83; California, $21.24; Massachusetts, $20.93; New Jersey, $20.35; Maryland, $18.25; and New York, $18.18. This is interesting because I've seen job listings that offer half these hourly wages in California and New York. Literally, I saw one that offered, I think, $10/hr in the Los Angeles area. How do employers expect people to live on so little?
These are just a few thoughts for today. Merry Christmas.
