Skipping Christmas parade

The New Albany Christmas parade is tonight, but I didn't go. For the four previous years, I went to the parade for work, taking photos of the crowd, while my co-worker Brinkley took photos of the floats and marchers.

It was one of the first things I ever did after I started at the Gazette. I loved going, mingling with the crowds and getting pix of the cute little kids. It was more fun if it was cold. People would be huddled up, sitting under blankets on the sidewalks or in the backs of trucks.

I didn't like the cold, but I loved covering the parade. It's funny, really. Even though I went for four years, I never actually saw the parade. I always between the parade and the crowd, always looking at the crowd, never at the parade.

People would ask me about certain things: the police cars riding by, sirens blazing and lights flashing. I would have to admit that I didn't see it. It's rather ironic, I miss something that I never saw. Odd.

My parents invited me to go with them, to ride in their car. They are part of the car club's section of the parade. But, I couldn't go. It just wasn't the same.
