two; voice; honesty flood means Thom has a nice ramble

There are many things that are new to me here. It has been almost a month and they still make no sense. The machines and the language people use are entirely foreign. It seems a strange afterlife, when I expected the Peaceful Realms and the hand of the Black God, to instead arrive in a ship larger than I have ever known filled with people who ( Read more... )

old timey all over the place, a cold in my gift, molly's hair matches my eyes, researching all the things

Is the Black God your god of death? What's your gift?

Yes. The Black God is the brother of the Mithros and the Great Mother and he leads the spirits of the dead to the Peaceful Realms--he rules there. [Pause. He may be honest at the moment, but speaking ill of the gods is still a little risky.] I'm not very devout, despite growing up in the cloisters of the City of the Gods. The gods are very real, but I was always reluctant to give them much respect.

My Gift is magic; sorcery. It got corrupted when I raised my sister's enemy from the dead. I was completely drained when I died and I was hoping it would come back right but it seems that was too much to ask for. It's very inconvenient.

I serve the Many-Faced God. Where do they call him Black? I've never heard that name before.

[WAIT WAIT SUPER MORE IMPORTANT THINGS HERE] You can raise the dead? Any dead? What do you need to fix your magic?

I can. ...though I had to take my sister's power as well as my own to do it. Theoretically, I could raise anybody. [Not necessarily true? But Thom thinks it is.] As for what I need to fix it... there are spells I need to complete. I hate it but I'm truly unsure I could do it by myself. Particularly if the corruption comes back as strongly as it was before Master Si-cham started helping me fix it.

Oh, and you're probably from a different world than I am. He is known as the Black God in Tortall.

He's still the same god. What's Tortall like? Can anyone here help you fix it? Could you raise someone from my world?

Tortall is ruled by a king, protected by noblemen and run by peasants. I don't really know what to tell you about it because it's the only land I have ever known. I don't know enough about the people here or the powers they wield to answer your second question; the spells are quite specific and I still haven't decided if it is likely that power from one world could be used in spells from another. It may work.

I might be able to bring someone back to life--if I had my power and if I researched the ways of magic in your world. The experience I had when I raised Roger has made me somewhat wary of trying those spells again, however. Who is it you want back?

[Oh God how does she pick only one. Who does she pick. D:] ...My father. [Sorry mom. :c] If you could would you?

Perhaps. I'm not certain. I don't think I would do it without a good reason, be that a bargain or otherwise. I am curious as to whether it could be done, though. The intellectual side of the question is the most interesting to me.

[Sorry, Arya. Thom's kind of tactless.] Your father; how did he die?

What could we bargain for?

[Eh, tact is overrated.] His head was cut off.

The man I raised was still whole. You wouldn't want your father coming back headless. [His voice gets a bit muffled. He's looking at his books and forgot to take the journal along.] But possibly it would simply require more magic...

[Distractedly:] As for what we could bargain for, it would be up to you to offer something. What service could a child be to me?

I could protect you. I can keep you safe. [She does not want a headless father back, no sir. :c But if can do it she will be the best bodyguard ever.]

I can us a sword. I know how to kill. I can be merciful. [Mercy here meaning putting someone out of their misery, but.]
