Less PrePackage = More Health

My household goal for this year has been inspired by a year of reallllly watching the rumblings from the medical alternatives on Food Matters.  Taking it one step further than the simple adage " You are what you eat"  it is a not-so-new throat clearing at the thought that we can continue to live and eat what we as a North American society do... and not expect to see our health requirements ( and backsides) increasing.

Type 2 diabetes appearing in 11 year olds.
Malnourishment and dehydration in the over fed !
and many many " new" ailments that are appearing with "unproven" links and triggers to chemicals in foods.

I have B.O.B.  ( My doctor says I can call Fibromyalsia that for all it matters... so hence forth.. I have B.O.B.)  There is some speculation that degree and frequency of flareups with it are impacted by certain food additives... NAMELY  Aspertame.  (Craptastic...  my ONE vice in this world other than sex.. diet coke.  Will just have to up the one to replace the other,)  So, as I rethink and look at THAT additive, i am going to be taking a look at the other.

how much crap food do we bring into our homes with every environmentally friendly shopping bag?

Here is my mission.  Decrease the percentage of packaged foods to less than 20% of consumed goods.   This includes; processed meats (luncheon meats that have words " may contain", " and/or"  or anything other than what the meat should be!  MEAT), perogies, veggies.  snack foods and any other "convenience" foods.

Damn near EVERYTHING comes in a crinkly bag.  That is the number one sign of " put it back" for me now.  Does the bag crinkle?  Hot dogs!  GONE.  Cheese slices.  GONE.

The real challenge?   This may not increase! the cost of our food budget AND support allergy requirements!

My morals and goals MUST line up with my financial ability to maintain this.  There are no city/provincial grants to support healthy eating.  SO, that means this little venture ( as logical and noble as it is...)  MUST still fit within the funds available for life!

Exceptions; ( what the 20% must cover )  Friday night movie night treats.  Packed lunches for 3 boys and hubby.  Brithday party and holiday celebrations AND fast food take out!

Good thing i believe in a challenge!
