The Bedroom makeover

When ever mom comes down for a visit we seem to tackle a room.  Mom loves make overs but hates the work.  SOOO she becomes the financial end of the partnership.  This time I wouldn't let her to be as much of that partner as she would have liked but we got started on what I will finnish!

The old room was a bit heavy and well... " starter furniture" ish.  I had made a canopy over the bed in navy and burgundy with cream drapes and the "antique" quilt covered teh bed.  Heavy cream curtains with navy scalloped valance over the window.  The room was cozy enough but I had long gotten tired of it.  The bed was " NOT Comfortable" anymore ( to say the least) and I had decided that I need more " sanctuary" in my life.  That room was now the first target.

Sanctuary became the theme.  Soft sage green, two tones of cream/eggshell and a taupe.  Bamboo and Spa accents would be brought in.  Mom and Dad declared that as an anniversary and birthday pressent in one they would be contributing the new bedframe and headboard/shelf set from Ikea that I had in my Dream Book.  I picked up the paint last week... and off we went.

The room is far from done... but the transformation has begun.  Today I am hand painting floor to ceiling bamboo on the two corners that border the green wall to frame the bed.  The new chair cover and linens have been purchased.  (500 thread count sheets... yes I am a geek).  One of my life art charcoal sketches has been framed and will go above the bed.  ( CRINGE .. I still apparently undervalue my own artwork... meh) .  The old heavy curtains are gone and replaced with soft striped sheers that blow in the breeze from the window and allow in the morning sun that I love so much.  Bamboo blinds will be added very soon to appease Tha Man who likes complete dark to sleep.   Now I have plans for two matching dressers and a small unmetionables drawer set.  One dresser will be converted to have a pull out keyboard/laptop desk. I am also still in search of the PERFECT duvet cover.  I might end up making that.  We will see.

But that is in the future... for today.. back to painting bamboo.  OH and tackling the mound of laundry long ignored during the parental visit.
