One of the interesting side effects of putting up bird feeders this year has been the semi-regular appearance of a
Cooper's Hawk in our back yard. S/he caught a mouse (or vole) for lunch today, but even while preening and cleaning after the meal, s/he's still sitting in the little tree outside our kitchen window watching the bird feeders, just keeping an eye out for another tasty snack.
I enjoy the little encroachments of wildlife into our suburban neighborhood. The deer who ate the garden this summer I could have lived without, but I do love the hawks who come to visit.
