Leon x ???

Just because I wanna get some of this off of my chest.......

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a Weskerite first and foremost. Anything I do stems from that "religion". I also sneak into the Leonian services from time to time to steal their free chicken, and aside that, I've been known to flirt with Jillish rabbi's and members of the Billinian Preisthood.

Some say I'm a dirty girl. But I'll digress.

>_>

In my travels and my studies of the Sects of the RE Fandom, I've discovered that no denomination has more diversely interesting Sects than that of Leonians. Well, this may change with RE5, but anyway. The two that I find the most interesting to research would be Cleonists and Ladakites, or, to be more specific, you guessed it, LeonxClaire shippers and LeonxAda shippers.

It seems like these two are constantly at war with each other. I've never met a Leon fan who shipped either of these couples who seemed to completely get along with the other person. But that's true of alot of people, so I'll get even more specific. When it comes to Cleonists and Ladakites, should I say, two who've ever gotten along with each other and REALLY agreed to disagree over ANYTHING.

Though to a Weskerite, since we never agree to disagree, we simply win, that's perfectly understandable. XD

Anywayz. As you might be able to tell from my icon, I'm kind of a Closet Cleonist because when I ship Leon, I ship him with Claire before anyone else. But the reason I wanted to get all of this off of my chest is for one simple reason, and that is; the sheer and completely STUPID arguments I've seen Ladakites throwing out to explain away why Leon and Ada might be an OTP match.

Seriously, I've seen some DUMB shit. I've engaged arguing with this dumb shit too when I've been bored enough. For instance; Leon and Claire weren't meant to be because Leon never mentioned Claire ANYWHERE in RE4.

So what? Leon never mentioned Ada in Gaiden either. And besides, who gives a shit if Claire wasn't mentioned? Leon doesn't strike me as the obsessive boyfriend type, so I doubt he's going to be mentioning a girls name every five minutes if he has any kind of feeling for her.

So without further ado, here's some of the top five arguments I've seen on Lada vs Cleonism, and my counter arguments to those...arguments.

Top Five

1. Ada has saved Leon's ass several times in the past, and he has, in turn, saved hers. This must mean there's a connection there!

A. Um, have you even PLAYED Separate Ways? Have you read what Ada says about Leon? She says, and I quote, "...I need him in the supporting role for me to achieve my goals. I'll do whatever it takes to keep him in his place and make this all go smoothly."

So, gee, Ada saved his life because she cares for him, or because she's USING him? Well, she can't USE HIM if he's dead, can she? Sure, Ada has a heart, but she's also a SPY, and most spy's have their own personal interests at heart ABOVE ALL OTHERS. I highly doubt the asset he presents to her was overshadowed in any other motivation it would have taken for her to have saved his life.

Do whatever it takes to keep him in his place? Sheesh Ada, if you cared for him like so many Ladakites say you do, maybe you'd TELL HIM THE FUCKING TRUTH AND START WORKING WITH HIM INSTEAD OF AGAINST HIM FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL GOALS.

Oh yeah, she REALLY loves him, doesn't she?

Oh, and why did Leon save Ada's life? Was it out of her holding the key to his heroic heart, or because he's a virtuous guy who values human life, and wow, he doesn't want ANYONE to die if he can avoid it at all? Well Sherlock, whenever you have a mystery, the simplest answer, however improbable, must be the truth. So is it simpler to think that Leon's been carrying a torch for the Asian Spy all these years or is it simpler to think he saved her because he's just virtuous like that, and perhaps a big dumb lug?

2. Leon told Ashley Ada's like a ~sighs dreamily~ part of him he just can't let go...!

A. ~rubs eyes~ K...now see, this is another thing that pisses me off about alot of fans. They all take what they see as the absolute definitive answer. Life isn't that fucking simple though, yo. So here, I've got an easy explination for ya.

Note Leon's uneasiness around Ashley when she hugs him. Both times. The first time he's kinda like um, okay, no biggie, but the second, he's all like "OMG THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR!" Apparently, Leon views Ashley somewhat like a little sister, but yeah, he's not THAT stupid, and realizes that, well, Ashley's 18, her hormones are going wild, and he's a guy who's like doing death defying feats to save her life. Translation? This chicks gonna develop the hots for him BIG time.

So when Ashley asks Leon to do some ~queue second dreamy sigh~ overtime together, Leon's kinda like, "No thanks." But Ashley, lo and behold, apparently wants to talk to the dashing debonair some more and find out if maybe she can figure out why he'd turn down her young, blonde, good looks and annoying penchant for quirks definitive of a 14 year old. Leon's spidey senses begin tingling.

"So, who was that woman?" She asks with a curiosity suited to any green vixen of breeding age looking for her next mate to breed with and then consume completely, knowing the only other woman about was the one in a red dress that gave away enough leg to distract a horde of testosterone induced soldiers.

"Why do ya ask?" Leon replies knowingly. He's not ignorant to the fact that Ashley has about a billion hormones marching through her system right now, and the fact that she just fell into the sea isn't the only thing causing her to be wet.

"Come on, tell me!" Ashley insists, and Leon knows she's asking to find out just how connected he is to the Asian Spy, probably in order to secure a place in his hotel room on the way back. So he decides to give her a round about answer that in the end could really mean anything and simply states, "She's like a part of me I can't let go, let's just leave it at that."

Ada said so herself, Leon's a genius, and how he manages to avoid Ashley's admirations and sexual advances here proves it. But if you want to get into the pyschology of it, let's do so, this should be fun.

And it brings me to the next argument.

3. Leon calls Ada a part of himself he can't let go!

A. Yeah, but as stated, all a tactical part on Leon's side to keep Ashley from snagging him with her bear trap. However, there is STILL some pyschology to this argument, so let's tackle it, shall we?

First of all, after the intense events of Raccoon City, of course Ada and Leon would share a more personal aspect of a relationship that would be theirs alone and no one elses. Wesker said so himself, Ada developed an affection for Leon, and more than likely, given his nature to the female sex, Leon probably developed something in return. But affection is a funny thing, and it doesn't last forever, expecially not for six long years when apparently, as per Leon's reaction to Ada upon seeing her for the first time in RE4, they haven't seen each other AT ALL.

In fact, several times has it occured with people where affection, when not nurtured and stimulated, has turned to bitterness and disdain. If anything at all, it stands to reason that Leon still has developed a bad taste in his mouth from Ada because of her bi-polar disorder. She pulls a gun on him one minute, saves his life the next. She's not been around for the past six years, and he really can't say he knows her, didn't even know her in the beginning.

"Let's just leave it at that," Leon tells Ashley in addition to Ada being a part of himself he can't let go. If his forestatement of being unable to release some part of himself were at all fond to him, why not tell her about it? They've got a long ride ahead of them, and he needs something to fend off the viscious hormones raging behind him anyway. Instead though, he chooses to ignre the topic, and topics are usually only avoided when particularly painful in some way to the individual. You hear it all the time, "Let's change the subject," or "I don't wanna talk about this." "Let's leave it at that," is just another way of saying, "I don't wanna talk about it." It's a good thing Ashley isn't a psychology major either, otherwise she may have picked up on it found some way around it to get into his pants anyway, knowing he wasn't too fond of the memories he had apparently, and that ergo Ada didn't mean as much to him as he was letting on.

So combine the two arguments. Leon hasn't seen Ada in SIX YEARS, simplistically negating a chance for his affection to have grown larger for Ada, and he DOESN'T wanna talk about it. Bitter? I think so. Why? I have a good reason for that too.

Being the virtuous guy that Leon is, it stands to reason that he believed ANYONE could change when he was more niaeve to the world back in Raccoon. But Ada never did change. Over those six years, she stayed the same, worked with Wesker, did things against the grain, on her own, and took from him an optimistic belief in people as a whole that he probably held near and dear to himself. It was a part of himself he couldn't let go of, and being so optimistic, still refuses to, no matter HOW MUCH Ada won't change.

He still determines to think she can change, no matter what she's done. He can't let go of that part of himself because if he does, everything he's ever worked for will come crashing down on him. And it's frustrating to him because she's still the woman she was way back when. So bitter? Yes, I think so. She's a part of him he can't let go of, but it's nothing to do with love or affection, and Leon's not stupid enough to think that a relationship would ever work out between them anyway because of her ways as a Spy. But he won't give up on her when it comes to making her a better person. Because that's who Leon is, it's what he does.

4. Leon's initial reaction to Ada in RE4 was out of his attraction to her.

A. I know what some of you are thinking. WTF? (The ones with brains anyways) But I've heard that argument before, and as I've come to notice from LeonxAda shippers when making their arguments, it's just as full of shit as a constipated horses ass.

Why do I say this? Watch the scene again. LOOK at Leon, for Christ's sakes. LISTEN to how he says her name. Warily, full of suspicion. "Ada..." he confirms aloud, then promptly starts wondering why she's here and asks, "So it is true...you...workin' with Wesker."

If his reaction had ANYTHING to do with attraction, or affection at ALL, then WHY would Leon have immediatly, and essentially, asked her WHY she was there? I'll tell you why. Because his reaction was that of a paranoid man who knows he's facing a woman who has no shame in using her decietful ways to get what she wants or needs.

So instead of barreling her down like the love monkey he is, he decides to, wow, put his work first! That is SO typical of a guy who cares about a woman he hasn't seen in SO DAMNED LONG I swear! I see it in guys all the time! I care for you SO MUCH, but I'm just gonna plow you over with suspicious questions, instead of clinging to you and trying to find some solace from all the ugly mace weilding monks around.

Oh yeah, Leon's been carrying a torch for THIS chick for the past six years. This also backs up my argument for number 3. I'll explain.

"So it IS true...," he draws out, knowing now that the information he'd found in the past was accurate now and that his hopes of it being wrong had been dashed.

"True?" The coy Asian smirks back at the man, "About what?," she asks with a cute bob of her head, playing the innocent card until the end.

"You," he accuses her without hesitation, "working with Wesker."

"I see you've been doing your homework," replies Ada, immediately realizing Leon's not in the dark as he'd used to be, ruining whatever mysterious plans she had for him, so she drops her only way out in the form of shades that will inevitably blind him long enough for her to escape answering anymore of his questions.

"Why, Ada," Leon asks her curiously and disappointedly, knowing that Wesker was not one to be worked alongside of unless your motivations were as true as you might have led them out to be, feeling that disappointment dragging his optimistic hopes of the woman changing her ways down to the very floor of the room they stood in.

"What's it to you?" She asks as if he couldn't, or even shouldn't, have another care for such a woman as her, knowing her own deceitful and conniving ways, and knowing that she's only using him in this 'farce of a play' as she puts it in order to gain her own goals and needs, alternately knowing that he's a good man and shouldn't care for someone who's using him like that for and as such. He won't change her, no matter how hard he tries. Her fate was apparently sealed long ago.

"Why are you here? Why'd you show up like this?"

This entire conversation is VERY cryptic, and once again, as is the penchant for seemingly most RE fans, they take what they see as what is, and that's just not acceptable here when dealing with such encryptions. Apparently, Ada doesn't think she's good enough to be what Leon thinks she can be, and though she admires him for believing in her as such, she's not going to drop her goals for him like that, being too absorbed with herself, and having bigger fish to fry on her plate.

Leon also knows this is true, but it wasn't affection that guided his reaction to her, or attraction. Instead, he chooses to find out exactly why she's there, what she's planning, and who she's planning it for. If this reaction WAS out of attraction, then he sure as hell has a funny way of showing it. What the hell does he do when an attractive woman hits on him?

"Hi baby, you're hot, wanna get a drink?"
"WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR!?!?!?"
~girl runs away feeling and screaming in terror~

No wonder he has such rotten luck with women. e_e

5. Claire was NEVER MENTIONED in RE4! Even when he talked to Luis about Raccoon City! And he never mentioned her to Ashley!

A. Oh boy, I'm gonna REALLY have some fun with this one. No, Claire wasn't mentioned in RE4, so as several Ladakites state, she has no place in his life because of that fact. But gee, let me see, somehow Claire mentions Leon in CVX and that she apparently KNOWS him, and knows him WELL enough to not ONLY have his contact information, but to ALSO have it fucking MEMORIZED. Gee! I don't think they had Leon's email address stored on memory in Rockfort Isle.

Leon never got a chance to contact Claire. For one, I don't see any computers hanging around the village. For another, Claire's a COLLEGE student, he's a GOVERNMENT AGENT. Yeah, I can REALLY see the following happening.

Leon: Oh look, here's a computer. I have a chance to contact the military and send them in! But I have an even BETTER idea! I'll contact my college student friend and have her come in, guns blazing, and tearing shit up!

Well, Claire WILL fuck your shit up, yo, ya know?

Then you say he never mentioned her to Luis. Hmm, I wonder why that is? "Yeah, I used to be a cop, but only for a day though. Somehow I managed to get myself involved with the incident in Raccoon City on my first day on the force." Then he suddenly adds completely out of context, "Oh, and I met this redhead named Claire Redfield, she was looking for her brother, you haven't seen him have you?"

Whatever. WTF would he bring Claire up to Luis? Even if he DID love her, WHY would he bring her up to this stranger he barely knows? For all he DOES know, Luis is working for Saddler and is trying to find out everything about Leon he can. Saying he was seeing Claire at the time and he brings up her name, the next thing he knows, Saddler's gone and abducted Claire too just to have something to hold over Leon's head. For that reason alone, he would have never brought her up BESIDES the fact that it would just be completely out of context.

And where else would you have preffered to see Claire being mentioned in the game? Honestly? Is there ANY PLACE AT ALL that would have suited mentioning Claire in RE4? NO. There's NOT. So stop arguing that stupid point and come up with something that actually BEARS SOME WEIGHT.

As for Leon never mentioning Claire to Ashley, um, hello? We were there with them for the entire jet ski ride? We heard their entire conversation? I don't think so. Not to mention that, as stated before, Leon was trying to ward off Ashley's advances as much as possible. If he DIDN'T mention Claire's name to her, it was probably because he was afraid the vampiristic hormone driven teenager would go to find Claire one night and slaughter her horribly in her sleep for being a possibility for Leon to get with over herself.

But that about sums up my argument over reasons why Ada and Leon are NOT an OTP match. Needless to say I think some people have been pwnt. But that's just me.

And this is posted publicly just so anyone who wishes to do so may flame me and then be ignored for not having anything better to say. Oh, burned, baby, burned BADLY!!! hehehe XD :P
