An adventure with Gillespie, Doily, and that hairbrush that's meant to be a dog

In a development that would make my ten year old self wet himself with excitement, and which isn’t far off from having the exact same effect on my thirty year old self, Aardman Animations are planning to make a film of The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists (possibly with a bit of Whaling thrown in as well). This is obviously f*cking ( Read more... )

Can I keep Chas in the kennel?

Fine, but I think you're forgetting the sheer level of sass you'll have to put up with. Plus, I think Chas was meant to be an albino version of Morph, and if the Da Vinci Code has taught us one thing it's that albinos are evil to the core. Ironically an albino-core is black as coal!

Not with a Turlough icon you can't. He's even worse than Chas for getting up to mischief.

Presumably why the Black Guardian never tried to use Chas to further his evile schemes.

But now I'm thinking how great it would have been if that bird in the Black Guardian's hair had been an animated bit of plasticene. Not that I have a clue what you're talking about anyway. What's a 'black guardian'? I don't even understand this 'key to time' you mention. I spent my childhood playing football and climbing trees.

Didn't everything die a melty death in that big fire they had?

I think that all got a bit exaggerated in the press. But I don't mind if I just come away with a pair of Morph's eyes embedded in a charred blob that used to be his body.

This is fantastic. I can't think of a better studio than Aardman to work with on this. Plus Sarah Smith is aces for the 99p Challenge alone, no matter about anything else she's done before or since.

And at least you've, you know, kept it British etc etc instead of whoring yourself to Hollywood.

This is actually the BEST thing in the history of the world. It has eclipsed that yeasty pretender, sliced bread. From now on, people will say:

"This is the best thing since Aardman optioned Gideon Defoe's breakthrough short novel The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists!"

Tom Baker has to do the voice of the Pirate Captain, btw.

I want to cast Tom Baker AND Brian Blessed just to see what sort of bellowing critical-mass happens when you put them in a room together. Maybe they'd go so far they'd actually come out the other side and would both give nicely understated performances.
