映画を楽しみにしている

When they first announced that Tamaki-senpai was going to Yamamoto Yusuke, I was terribly skeptical.  And then I found out that Haruhi was being played by the Yankee friend from Yankee-kun to Megane-chan.  I was disappointed.  But when I went to download the first episode, and realized that this was a half-hour late-night drama, I was downright depressed.  Oh lord, this series is gonna suck!  It's going to be low-budget with bad acting and the majority of the air-time is going to be filled with recap.  T_T

But then Ouran High School Host Club proved me wrong!  Ten-fold!  This season, IMHO, was an excellent one for the late-night shows.  And this series was an excellent example.  It was goofy...almost like a live-action anime.  There were many things that could have cheesed it right out of my radar, like the hidoi (sorry, couldn't think of the English word for a min...cruel, that's it!) words that flung Tamaki-senpai against the wall.  And the Loony Toons-esque heart that burst from his chest every few episodes.  But maybe it was the energy that Yamamoto brought to the series that made it all much more acceptable.  After all, the "Haruhi" wail seemed just perfect...equal parts pathetic, longing, and self-indulgent...with a bit of mating-call mixed in.

The actress who played Haruhi wasn't all that interesting.  She was flat, but so was her character.  I was never a big fan of the anime...didn't actually ever finish it.  It was too...too.  Just loud and obnoxious and gah!  I can't even think of the words.  It was tedious.  I didn't care.  But that's not all that surprising for me, I suppose.  My track record with anime isn't all that great.  Either way, I didn't watch the series for Haruhi.  It's not a reverse harem for nothin'!

Now let me take a moment to flail over Kyoya...or in all honesty, Daito Shunsuke.  Damn that man is fiiine.  Wow, that was ghetto.  Can't help it tho, with his photobook and Junon pages circa Tumbling rolling by on my desktop screensaver.  It is a constant and and welcome reminder.  I do have one wish though for Kyoya's drama character...he wasn't EVIL enough.  I don't feel that he struck fear in the hearts of anyone.  I admit it, I want to be frightened by my crush.  Not so much in real life, though...maybe.

The twins were more interesting to me in people form...and I would like to see more from the Takagis.  Their pull wasn't exactly my thing, but I might have sighed once or twice along with the patrons.  And Hani-senpai was far less annoying this time around!

All in all, very much enjoyed this drama.  Now, to wait for the movie!
