So much for a comeback

Thus far I have spent the majority of my week doing internet research on many things, and these are the conclusions I have come to ( Read more... )

Well, I don't know how "cute" you want to go for Gidsbeast, but the Blue Jean Teddy collection is fairly gender neutral ( ... )

Well, so far, the front-runners for bedding are hippos and this. I know I have tons of time for this, I do, but I have been researching EVERYTHING!

Seriously, why is flatware so fug? Most of what I've looked at is hideous! The plainer the better, as far as I'm concerned with all flatware, dishes, etc.

Ooh! You're right - that does seem a bit winter-y, but something a bit spicy sounds good. Apparently I can't make food spicy enough these days! I'm going to print that one out. Looks easy enough. Thank you!

Oooh, I like both of those! I likes ammimals. :-)

As for starting early, well, that's the fun part of being pg, right, the shopping? Plus, you need to know what you want when it's baby shower time. *nods sagely*

We played around with that recipe a bit and used it as a starting point. My friend buys this tomato sauce that has jalapenos, so we subbed it in for the regular and used the spicy chili beans. Really, the spiciness is only limited by your palate, plus you can mix up the beans and cheese and such. It's yumola.

I'm conflicted - the hippos are just fucking awesome, but the other has brighter colors. Eh. We shall see. I'll just find something later that I like better I'm sure! I have to say, though, having previous nanny experience is totally going to come in handy when it comes to knowing what we'll need and what we won't need. :D

Awesome - so I could just put hot sauce on it if it isn't hot enough! Good plan!

Wow, I don't know what planet I was on when you posted the big news, but congratulations! And man, good luck on that cute gender-neutral crib bedding. I've been to enough babby showers to know that cute gender-neutral stuff is like, the holy grail of impending motherhood.

Also, YES on the flatware. And if you DO happen to find a set you like, it's somehow not built to be held by human hands. I'm still clinging to my cheap-o half-plastic set from a couple years ago.

I'm a big fan of throwing-shit-together meals, which don't ALWAYS turn out great, but I always get tons of really excellent ideas for what might go well together from my fave food blogs: Smitten Kitchen, 101 Cookbooks, and Daily Unadventures in Cooking.

Hee! I just slipped that one right past you, did I? :D Thank you, though. Seriously, not enough gender neutral stuff in the world. I'll already have a ton of gender-specific hand-me-downs from my sisters, so finding stuff that works for boys and/or girls is sort of the goal. Perhaps the bf and I are just too feminist for our own good?

Oh god, that will totes be me on the flatware - "All of this is ugly! I'm going to Target and buy the plain, cheap, half-plastic ones until I find something not fug!" I just don't get it. Flatware either looks to heavy to lift or like you could bend a spoon in half eating cereal!

Even better than recipes - food blogs! I will have to check those out, thank you. :D

I hope you can find lots of gender-neutral stuff. I'm not sure if it's your aesthetic or not, but my brother and his fiance went with Classic Pooh for my niece, and while gender neutrality was definitely not their reason for it, it's all actually very gender neutral. So there's an idea. Plus, Target has like, EVERYTHING Classic Pooh and it's cute. :)

And seriously, spring now please kthnx.

I think Pooh is probably not our thing. I think probably anything with recognizable characters is not our thing. We are totally picky, I know, and while classic Pooh is much less offensive than Disney princess nonsense, I think we'd be more inclined to go with something a bit more general.

God, I know! And I shouldn't even complain because I live somewhere it doesn't even snow! (Except that totally rogue 4 or so inches we had last Friday night!) I'm just so tired of having freezing fingers and toes. This winter has been ridiculously cold for everyone, hasn't it?

When I was a baby, my parents went with Disney themed. It's fairly gender neutral, I think. Either that, or I think somebody said Classic Pooh as a suggestion, and I agree with that as well.

Also, spring? Yes please. No more snow :(

Please, please, PLEASE do not get either one of us started on our views of Disney. As a gender neutral choice, SOME Disney characters might work, but not all of them. The bf and I pretty much dislike Disney on many levels, including race, gender, and general commercialism. Aaaand I'll shut up now.

Dude, seriously. I don't even need summer yet. I just want a day where I can wear a t-shirt without a hoodie and a coat as well!

Oh, no, I get that! Although I guess at the time, Disney would have been a lot more gender neutral than it is now. That was 20 years ago, after all. These days, I absolutely agree with you, its not very gender neutral, at least not as a whole entity, not to mention the deal with race, gender, and commercialism.

Exactly! I've been wearing hoodies and sometimes my jacket to class, and then the classrooms are hot and it just sucks! I hate snow too, and we have way too much of it!

Yeah, so that's pretty much a big NO on Disney. God help us when family and friends end up giving Disney gifts...

Well, spring has to get here eventually, right? I'm looking forward to my trip to south FL next month - at least it will be warmer there!

*jumps up and down* Here, me, I'm ready for spring! We had some serious sun yesterday and today, so I hope there will - finally! - be no more snow.

I'll start looking around for my favourite recipes. My mother is a vegetarian, and my sister used to be one, so I should be able to come up with some vegetarian stuff. Tomorrow though - time for bed now :)

PS: I like the hippo bedding!

I guess I can't complain too much since we NEVER get snow. (Apart from that freak 4 inches last Friday night!) We'll have sunny and dry and cold OR mild and rainy. I want sunny and warm, dammit.

Cool - if you have some favorites, definitely pass them on. Neither of us is strictly veggie, but I don't think every meal has to have meat, so.

PS: Me toooooo! It's cute and there are HIPPOS!
