Still sort of hiding from internet interaction. It’s like after I’ve stayed away for a while, it gets easier to stay away. I don’t know. I miss you guys, though. RL has been fairly fraught for the last few days, although things seem to be getting back on track now. Instead of pointless rambling about that, let’s have 1775 words of pointless rambling in
this verse from emails I sent to Jen.
If in my girl!Frank/Gerard verse things between Frankie and Gerard don't work out after Frankie graduates high school and goes off to college, how awesome would it be if her roommate freshman year was Jamia, with whom she started a fairly casual poly relationship along with Bob?
I mean, Gerard's a lot older than Frankie, and by the time she's finished high school, he's done with art school and working in a real job, but she's so young and still has all this stuff to do that Gerard's already done, you know? So she goes to college (in state, but she's going to live in the dorms, dammit) and meets Jamia the first day since Jamia's already in their shared room when Frankie gets there. They meet Bob for the first time the next day in their bio lecture, and all of them hate the class like burning. So they pretty much start studying together and hanging out even beyond that, and it's just really comfortable. Frankie misses Gerard a lot, but she sees him every once in a while when she goes home. They're still friendly, and Gerard's not seeing anyone, but it would never work if they tried to keep their relationship going, you know? So Frankie's having a good time and meeting new people, even though she pretty much exclusively hangs out with Jamia and Bob, and then one night when they're all sitting around Frankie and Jamia's room listening to some bootleg of this band Bob likes, Jamia kisses Frankie.
Frankie doesn't actually come right out and tell Gerard what's going on with her and Jamia and Bob. (It's difficult enough, the three of them trying to figure things out, but at least they all know that they're attracted to each other. Frankie's a little hesitant at first because she's never done anything with girls before, but Jamia is awesome, so mostly there's a lot of making out before they move on to Jamia going down on Frankie and Frankie blowing Bob.) They run into each other at their usual diner in Belleville one weekend, and Gerard is there with this girl Lindsey he met at work. They've obviously just started to get to know one another, but they seem into each other, and it's cute. Jamia and Bob are home with Frankie for the weekend, and Gerard invited them all to sit down with him and Lindsey, and they do. Gerard and Lindsey sit on one side of the booth, and Frankie, Jamia, and Bob sit on the other side, and they all have coffee and pancakes, and the conversation isn't even that awkward. Gerard sort of gives Frankie this 'what in the world is going on?' look when he notices how close she seems to both Bob and Jamia, but Frankie just smiles, and Gerard is nice enough to pretend not to notice Jamia's hand under the hem of Frankie's skirt and Bob's fingers in Jamia's hair.
The weird thing is, even though Frankie's with Bob and Jamia now, there's still this funny little ache when she thinks of Gerard. She pushes it away, though, and after they leave the diner, waving at Gee and Lindsey, Frankie takes her girlfriend and her boyfriend home to her mom's house. That night, she goes down on Jamia for the first time, and Frankie knows she's probably not very good, but Jamia's appreciative and pets her hair, and the rhythm of Bob behind her, inside her, is nothing like the way Gerard used to fuck her, and Frankie is grateful for that. After, the three of them brush their teeth and put on pajamas and Jamia curls up behind her, Bob in front of her, and Frankie doesn't dream, and in the morning they fuck again before coffee, Jamia riding Bob slow and lazy while Frankie grinds down on Bob's fingers and bites his shoulder when she comes.
Things with Jamia and Bob are pretty awesome for a long time. Frankie and Jamia live together for the whole of their freshman year, and Bob spends a lot of time in their room with them, to the point that Frankie and Jamia's beds are permanently pushed together and there is no question from other people that they meet about what that means. So the relationship is pretty easy, and no one gets jealous and they all three know what they mean to each other, and when it comes time to think about what they're going to do after freshman year, there really isn't any choice but for the three of them to get a tiny apartment together off campus.
They move in right after final exams are over, and even though it's a tiny, crappy apartment, it's THEIRS and they love it. Bob buys them a big bed as a surprise from the money he's saved working sound at clubs around Newark. They all spend that summer working in local clubs--Bob does sound, Jamia's interning at some indie record label doing promotional stuff, and Frankie...well, Frankie's playing in three different bands having the time of her life. They're all working hard, staying up all night and sleeping and fucking all day, and it's sort of more awesome than the three of them imagined it might be.
Frankie still sees Mikey around a lot, especially since he does a lot of work with Jamia at the record label, so she hears a lot about Gerard when they have a chance to catch up. She's really happy with Bob and Jamia, so she doesn't expect the news of Gerard's engagement to hit her so hard, but it does. Mikey's working on his fourth beer at some small, dirty club where one of Frankie's bands has just put on a mediocre show when he tells her that Gerard asked Lindsey to marry him. He seems simultaneously amazed and yet not at all surprised that she said yes. Frankie just sort of nods when Mikey tells her, but she finishes her beer pretty fast after that and gets the hell out of the bar as soon as she can.
She's alone in the apartment when she gets back, so she takes advantage of the luxury of not having to fight for a shower and turns the water as hot as it will go, which isn't actually all that hot. Frankie keeps telling herself that she's happy for Gerard, she is, and she isn't going to cry because she's got Bob and Jamia, and she loves them. She's in bed, huddled under the covers, even in the summer swelter, when Jamia and Bob come in around three AM. They know something's wrong, but they don't ask, they just climb in bed with Frankie, Jamia in front, kissing her and stroking the skin over her ribs, Bob behind, fucking her slow and easy. Frankie doesn't think of Gerard, but of how lucky she is to have two people who know her and love her like they do.
Bob and Jamia are really awesome for Frankie, they are. They end up spending their second year at college together as well. Bob is studying music and Jamia is studying business and Frankie still doesn't know what she wants to major in, but she's mostly enjoying classes, and she's finally playing in a decent band, and things are going really well. Frankie still hangs out with Mikey (and Alicia!) a bit, but she doesn't see Gerard much because he's spending so much time in the city and with Lindsey. Mikey thinks they might move in together soon, and Frankie only spends a weekend getting drunk when she hears that. Somehow, though, the relationship of Bob and Frankie and Jamia starts to be more and more about Bob and Jamia, and when Bob decides to go back to Chicago to finish college, Jamia immediately decides to go with him. Frankie is undecided for a long time. She loves them, and they love her, but it's difficult at best with three people, and Frankie knows that at some point it will be too hard, so as much as she loves them, she decides to stay in Jersey.
Bob and Jamia leave for Chicago as soon as they can when sophomore year is over. Frankie helps them pack, and they help her take her things back to her mom's house. The three of them spend one last night together in a hotel. Bob and Jamia are leaving early the next morning, but none of them get that much sleep. Frankie waves at their car as it disappears down the street just after sunrise, and she can still feel Bob's beard burn on her thighs and taste Jamia on her tongue.
Unfortunately, Frankie spends most of that summer being utterly miserable. She talks to Bob and Jamia a lot and wonders if she made the right decision staying in Jersey and letting them go. She gets the swallows tattooed on her hips a couple of weeks after they leave as a reminder. She gets drunk a lot and starts a lot of fights after playing shows with her band, and ultimately, the band breaks up. Frankie's actually glad when school starts again because it takes her mind off how shitty her life is. She talks to Jamia and Bob less and less, but when they do talk, they sound happy. They invite Frankie out to Chicago to visit, but she knows she doesn't really have a place with them anymore, so she stays put in Jersey and concentrates on school. She doesn't find a new band to play with and she stops going out drinking and she rarely sees Mikey and never sees Gerard.
The last two years of college end up going by pretty fast, and Frankie finishes her degree. After college she has no idea what she wants to do, a pile of student loans to pay back, and a fairly useless BA. She thinks about getting another band together, but playing in shitty bars isn't going to pay the bills. She's still living at her mom's house and looking for jobs, and after a couple of months, she finally gets an interview with some new company that publishes comic books. Frankie still isn't really clear on what the job entails when she takes the train into the city for the interview, but the pay promises to be pretty decent, and she likes the look of the company's office when she gets there. She's sitting in a tiny conference room by herself, waiting for the guy who's supposed to interview her, and Frankie almost falls out of the chair when she recognizes Gerard!
Um. And that’s about as far as I’ve got. I should really finish writing up the bit that directly follows that fic. I think when I left Frankie and Gerard, they were discussing the zombie apocalypse. IDEK!
