All your opinions are belong to me

Apropos of a conversation I had with silentdescant at the weekend (In person! Because we got to meet up! And I can say with absolute certainty that she is pocket-sized and super adorable and lots of fun!) and one I had with sebastian this afternoon over the phone…

Since the majority of us are currently involved in or have in the past been involved in one fandom or another, I want your opinions on meeting celebrities/famous people! (Please do define ‘celebrity’ and ‘famous people’ as you will). Specifically, have you gone out of your way to meet a celebrity from a fandom in which you are/were involved, whether that means meet & greet at a show, or a convention, etc.? What was the experience like for you? Was it fun or awkward or amazing or awful? Would you do it again? Have you met any famous people on more than one occasion? If so, have you met other fans who’ve met celebrities more than once? Have you come across fans who have been recognized by a certain famous person because they’ve met them more than once? Have you ever met a celebrity by chance, in an everyday situation, and approached them to talk to them? If not, would you? What are your thoughts on people who do-i.e., do you see that as a sort of invasion of privacy?

I’m just curious because for me, meeting an object of my fannish affection would not be something I’d really be interested in-it would pretty much ruin the image I have of that person in my head. (As I said to the bf earlier, no, I would not talk to Frank Iero in a bar if he sat down next to me. I’m not the sort of person who talks to people first, famous or not. I don’t want real life Frank. I like the Frank in my head. Meeting him would just be very strange.) On the other hand, I love reading fan reports from various events and shows, and I love seeing new photos and finding out that, for the most part, famous people are pretty awesome about meeting their fans. I love to see you guys, my friends, get excited about meeting Elijah Wood or Pete Wentz or Gerard Way or whoever because it makes me smile.

So! Any and all thoughts and opinions welcome, and I’ll leave this unlocked so that if you’d rather answer anonymously you can.
