Just follow the light…

They’ve been driving all night, through flat expanses of land that seem never-ending, the tires humming a monotonous lullaby over countless miles of unknown highway. There is a stirring from the passenger seat as the sky grows lighter in the east, revealing winter bare trees and the frost on the ground alongside a deserted road.

“There,” comes a softly urgent whisper as a sleepy hand is pressed against the window. “That way.”

“Why that way? We don’t know where the road leads. We haven’t a map.”

“It doesn’t matter. We’ll find our way.”

“How do you know?”

“I just know.”
