Title: Comrade
Author: Gibson_fic
Fandom: Bandom
Pairing: None. Implied Andy/Mix pre-slash

Author’s Notes: At this point I think the headers for this thing are almost as long as the “fic” itself. One of my favorite people in all of the internet is having a birthday and I wanted to write her something, but time, RL and my own skills weren’t really up to the task. Still, here’s what I’ve been able to come up with.

Andy finds the vegan black bean salsa that he covets from Trader Joe’s in the refrigerator and he doesn’t even hesitate before digging in. His name is on the container, even if he knows he didn’t buy it. He hasn’t been to a Trader Joe’s in over two months.

It tastes delicious. He even tweets about it.

Mix responds to his tweet with a “bro, I knew you’d love that shit” and the mystery of how his name came to be on the container is resolved, though not why. He doesn’t see Mix that night or in the morning, but when he gets home from finally going to the grocery store, he sees a new pair of basketball shorts on his bed.

Normally that’d be a pretty personal gift, but Andy’s spent many a pre-tour-packing-binge bitching about the perfect shorts to play in and all the people who have regular access to his room know how he feels. It could be anyone in his house, except right now Misery Signals is somewhere in Pennsylvania, and it’s not like the guys to plan that far in advance. Mix again, then.

After the third day of finding thoughtful gifts personally tailored to Andy’s preferences, stated or not, he’s beginning to be concerned. Especially since he hasn’t seen more of Mix in the past four days than a clean cup in the sink and a cushion slightly out of place on the couch. If it weren’t for the gifts, he’d think he’d pissed the dude off. Well, that and twitter. Mix is still talking to him on twitter. Take the mountain to the Mix or something like that, right?

Andy tweets him: “Dude, what’s with the disappearing act?”

It’s twenty minutes before he responds with a “busy, two jobs, all that shit.” It’s a dodge and Andy knows it, but he can’t figure out what it is that Mix is dodging.

He tries again, “and the stuff?”

“Thought you’d like it” comes back almost immediately.

He does like it, and he tells him that, but he’d also like to know why he’s getting it and why there seems to be a correlation between the number of surprises he discovers and how much time he spends with his best friend. He tells him that too.

Mix sends him a text after that one, “wanted to say thank you. Best friend I’ve ever had. But presents, kind of weird, you know?”

Mix is a little shit, and Andy tells him that too. He also tells him that if he’s not home in time for dinner Andy’s going to start pissing in his bed.

He might send him another message after that one, telling him that Mix is his best friend too, but they don’t talk about that one.
