Question: How do you make a movie about geeks who play baseball starring Rob Schneider, Jon Lovitz, and David Spade any worse than it could already be?
Answer: You add John Heder!
Better known as Napoleon Dynamite, John Heder is once again playing Napoleon in this awful-looking movie with ex-SNLers that have a popularity level between never being seen again and beeing Adam Sandler. And don't get me wrong, I actually like Spade and Scheider, and Lovitz is ok. But come on. This going to be terrible.
John Heder is what really gets be about this. Those other guys do movies like this all the time. The Animal was fun, and Dickie Betts was...well a peice of crap...Joe Dirt I liked... But these guys can actually be funny by acting as characters. Notice: "characters". John Heder can't act. And Napoleon Dynamite isn't even a very funny character. He had being unique on his side, and then half the population started immitating him and so his stupid catch phrases weren't even funny anymore. Why do these guys need a crappy Napoleon Dynamite-wannabe character played by the same guy to be in their movie? Is it going to be that terrible? It must be.
But this insane amount of anti-comedy isn't compacted into only "Benchwarmers". If you have happened to see these other movies with people who aren't funny like "Phat Girls" and "Health Inspector". Larry The Cable Guy can't act. He can barely spit out full sentences when doing stand up. I can guarantee you that "Health Inspector" and "Phat Girls" (which stars another comedian named Monique [another comedian so lame, they had to change their name to seem funnier or cooler] who is even less funny) will not only be unfunny, but just rediculously horrible. I bet those movies will be so bad that you'll be left with a bad taste in your mouth.
I'm just happy that there are a few movies out there that could be good. Like "Thank You For Smoking" and "American Dreamz". Both are satires and have fantastic potential. And it is about time. Comedy is just decreasing more and more it seems like. Arrested Development gets cancelled (because people don't know what comedy is). And shows like Family Guy and SNL are getting progressively less funny. Let's hope comedy comes back sometime. It wont happen. But we can still hope.
Man I hate John Heder. And Tom.
