*this is for Bridgits Flame mini contest - all fiction. Please note that I did not study History, (I know some of the language is NOT correct, but went with somewhat modern language of today) and thought this subject would be funny to do (Maybe the introduction to chocolate chip cookies?). - rather long (sorry ;))
As I walked outside me small cottage,I find this scroll upon me doorstep.
"His Lord Majesty King Henry The Eighth announces to wish someone in his Kingdom to bake his Royal Majesty some cookies."
Cookies? Really? Ah, for I am a good baker, known to be the best in this land, but do they know who I really am? I thought to myself as I read on "For thy cookies, His Lord Majesty King Henry the Eighth will give thee two whole bags worth of gold"
"That's a bit o good money there" I thought to meself.
I kept reading the scroll "Tarry not, and if thy cookies are terrible to eat, thoust will feed them to the livestock and stay there for ten whole days doing so" ah well then, who makes terrible cookies, I thought.
I looked in me recipe book and found a cookie recipe I had not used in a many great years. "Ah yes, here it is now. Aye, but it's missing an ingredient or two, I'll have to go into town to get the rest."
I took me sack upon my shoulders as I walked down the street to see if I could borrow me neighbor's horse and carriage.
"Good Simon, are ye here lad?" I say loudly as I knock upon his door.
"Aye, hold on a minute, I be comin'" said Simon as he put on a pair of trousers. "Oh it's only you." he said almost with disappointment.
"Now, now, Simon, don't be like that, ye know ye owe me a favor, and now I come to claim it." I say with the brightest smile on me face.
"Ah, ye are right me darlin Sandra, and if I do give ye this favor, then we be settled." he said with a grin upon his face.
"Aye." I agreed, "Now, Simon, fer this favor, I need to borrow ye horse and carriage to go to town."
"Nay! I think not! No woman that I know shall do that! If ye still be needin' it, then I be comin too." His brown hazel eyes lit up from anger.
"Alright, Simon, no need to get angry with me, just know it be a special ride just fer me." I said as sweetly as I could.
"Right then, do I need to know why are ye goin to town fer?" He asked me as his black hair came into his eyes.
"Read this scroll, and tell me true, to make the cookies I made fer ye, to make for His Majesty." I said batting me eyes again.
"Oh, me darlin Sandra! I think that be a grand idea! We could split the monies afterwards too." His voice always got to me heart, but this time I be stronger.
"Nay! The monies would be fer me, ye know me Father would want it that way." I said to Simon.
"Right, then we be off to town."
We get to town and buy me some ingredients, and then Simon yells from the merchant across the way. "Me darlin Sandra, take a look at this here, they call this Chocolate."
"Aye, then, tell me all about this here Chocolate." I ask the merchant.
"It comes from a land you have never seen, and tastes like heaven and comes from a bean." The man said to me. I notice there were carpets and jugs that I had ne'er seen before. "And how much ye be wantin' for this heavenly bean?" I ask him.
"For you, I only ask of Ten shillings." He said with a greasy smile on his dark face.
"If I may have a sample first, I will pay you the money." I wanted to be sure that this was true, as I never had heard of this "chocolate" before.
"Aye, a small sample for the lady." he said as he handed me a small sliver of brown, coarse chip. The flavor bursted into me mouth, and I thought that this would win me those bags o gold.
I pull out the monies and get back home to me cottage to make the cookies with this strange and heavenly flavor. I thanked Simon as I walked back to me door. "Ye know ye'll have to save me a few o those cookies, me darlin." he said with a smile.
"Aye, Simon, 'ere I thought our favors were settled then." I smiled knowing I had won his heart once more.
"Well, lass, we bring it to His Majesty together then, and see where it goes." he said with a smile on his face.
I baked the cookies and added the heavenly chocolate, and wrote a note for Simon to give to His Majesty.
"Sire, I am in great hopes that you like my cookies the best - Yours ever faithful Sandra Bolynn"
