So obviously I got the Otakon thing pretty much sorted. A friend of a friend whom I met last year happened to be going, and he had a room at the Sheraton (that was already paid for since he booked it through one of those discount sites) so I canceled my room and bunked with him. It ended up just being the two of us since the other person he thought was going to join us never showed. The guy was about the mellowest person I've ever met, so things worked out really well in that respect- I know I'm not the easiest dude to get along with, so I was afraid things would go, shall we say, less than smooth. We ate regularly, got good rest, and did some stuff at the con, but something was kind of off.
I can't put my finger on it, but something was wrong this year. The dealers' room sucked, but it's been like that for years. There wasn't much worth watching in the video rooms, but that likewise is usually true. The panels list was kind of bare, I guess that was a contributing factor. AMVs sucked ass, that was another. I was also feeling this weird disconnect the whole time. I don't want to say I'm getting burned out on anime conventions since I don't go to enough of them but on the whole Otakon just wasn't as much fun as it should have been. Not to say it wasn't fun- nothing really went wrong, I got to travel, and I really do enjoy the trip. I just wish it had been more fun.
