We're the road to Arbil, passing through Kirkuk. Pishtewan is in the car with Travis, Anas, and myself. You may recall some of Pishtewan's earlier adventures.

As we approach an Iraqi Police checkpoint, he animatedly tells us these are his "friends", the ones he fought with a few weeks back. Then he moves over to the near window and begins ( Read more... )

Reading this post sent a very real chill down my spine. I know it's par for the course as far as you're concerned but these recent events creep me out more than pretty much anything else that's happened since you left for Baghdad. Wishing you the best of luck and safety.

So, my understanding is obviously off... probably because I'm woefully underinformed.

From this article, Sunni's are involved as well with stuff:

But all the article mention really is Al Sadr, who you say is totally Shia.

So, where are the Sunni insurgents?

Shia Muslims are a majority (over 60%) in Iraq, and whose holiest cities are in the south (Najaf and Karbala). Sunni Muslims make up about 20%, and the rest are Christians, followers of John the Baptist, angel worshippers (Lucifer being the highest), and other very ancient religions you thought you'd only find in a D&D book ( ... )
