The Night of the Dupli-KITT
Oh, how he had fumed and how he had ranted! Those meddlers had destroyed so much of his equipment. Gordon particularly had wrought particular havok on his computers and, KITT! That car had turned into a complete menace! Loveless chided himself. He should never have put the AI unit back into the car before he and Voltaire had finished constructing the duplicate car.
The duplicate!
Loveless' mood brightened considerably as he gazed at the nearly complete duplicate car. It had taken Voltaire hours to clean up the garage laboratory and then bring down the backup computer systems. As Voltaire had tended to the heavy cleanup and construction work, Loveless himself had concentrated on programming the duplicate AI unit. Gordon had interrupted him before he was completely finished the transfer of his own mental patterns to the duplicate of KITT's AI, but the process had been far enough along that Loveless felt confident about at least testing the unit now.
He could barely rein in his glee as he watched Voltaire put the finishing touches on the car body. The giant stepped back, and Loveless brought the new AI unit over to the car. He laid it in place, and then stepped back so that Voltaire could shut the car hood.
"Now we shall see how well the process worked!" Loveless said to Voltaire. His eyes were shining with excitement. "Think of it, Voltaire! The perfect merger of my intellect with this vehicle, fueled with a super-powerful, almost infinite energy source! It will be almost as if I had become immortal!"
Loveless had to restrain himself from actually getting into the car. Delicious as that notion was, he needed to put the car through a complete test before he would entrust his own physical safety to it.
He stepped back and activated a trigger that started the car.
"Hello." he said to it. "I am your creator!"
