still sick

Yesterday was one of those rehearsals where you end up making vain attempts at hiding behind the (hopefully larger) voice of the nearest person singing your part. Unfortunately for me (and most of the alto section) there were so many missing singers last night that I had no one within 10 feet of me to hide behind, and a bunch of sopranos and second altos singing the dissonant notes in my ear. "Daphnis et Chloe" is by no means an easy piece, and my lack of practicing is becoming REALLY evident. The piece sounds fantastic, somehow, even with me spouting wrong notes left and right.

I suppose sometimes you have to choose the greater of two evils, and by that I mean I've been spending inordinate amounts of time practicing my solo music in order to make a halfway decent, artistic recording on Saturday for NEC's preliminary audition. Meanwhile I'm still hacking up a lung, before, during and after rehearsals. I hope there's a lesson buried somewhere in all of this.

In other news...Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday dear A-anne........Happy Birthday to You! (sung with a crazy melismatic bel canto flourish on "You", heehee)
