It's been close to a year since I've posted anything but I still comment on other people's blogs (sometimes) so I figure it's time for an update. I abandoned my abusive ex-boyfriend of a "career" path in the law, and I'm a pretty fulfilled German, French and god help me Latin teacher in Delaware now. It was pretty overwhelming at first but I think I've settled into to it at this point. Grading papers is the bane of my existence but considering some of my past banes I feel like I'm getting off lightly.
Teaching Latin is pretty hilarious because I in no way speak it and have never taken a class in it, but its grammatical structure is pretty close to German (although more complicated) and the class is comprised of a tiny group of highly motivated upper classmen so we do alright. I'm sponsoring Latin Club, we do movies, museums and mosaics. Our motto is Semper ubi sub ubi. Hee!
The French and German I actually speak and have taken classes in so that's a lot easier although Freshmen are really interesting creatures. Super noisy and kinesthetic. I dig it though, it works well with my disinterest in sitting still and the entire scene changes every 50 minutes so I'm never bored.
Teachers are pretty cool people, we have "coffee" aka raucous happy hour every Friday and holiday parties. They're welcoming and fun, by and large, and we just gossip about the douchbags so there is place for them as well.
Plus benefits, pension and most of all security, the one thing I think I was always searching for and failing to find. I'm content.
