My poetry was lousy you said

Aug 26, 2010 22:55

This has kind of been sitting for a while, so I finally just decided to post.

I don't think I've ever been happier to see a book on inorganic or physical chemistry, respectively. I can finally start my reading and do my homework! Cause you know, I'm not already behind on my reading and homework. Except I'm also apparently missing a book for pchem lab? What sort of lab has an entirely separate, actual textbook?

Second instance of fraud in my life- pretending to be a grad student so, of all things, I could get a free catalog. It's a really neat catalog; has the base formulas for 8k+ chemicals in the index. Of course, then you have to look through them and match them up if you've forgotten your nomenclature.

The TARDIS popped up in Cambridge, in other news. Hack of the day, for sure.

And a meme from feu_de_circe .

Leave me a comment by saying "Ducks!"
I'll respond by asking you five completely random questions.
Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions.

1. What is the most completely nonsensical dream you have ever had (since, curiously, all of yours seem to involve a logical plot and consistent characters)?

Hum. They seem really nonsensical, or just feel really nonsensical, to me. I think they all have some overarching plot to them, but hum. A lot of them also just involved a LOT of walking.

The one with a talking sink, I think. Just because it was a talking sink, walking through a mirror and words that fell off of a page. Or maybe the one where I died in that really weirdly complicated and convoluted one with the nice ballgowns, or the one with the immortals?

I don't know. None of them make sense to me.

Can I say all of them?

2. What is your favorite poem?

Paradise Lost.

Hah, no. Milton is not my favorite poet ever. Neither is Dante- they both contributed largely to the world of Great, High and Respected Literature, but eh. They're kind of a bore to read.

Poetry isn't something that particularly makes a big impact on me, as say, a book, but I'll just say Rilke's First Duino Elegy or T.S. Eliot's Wasteland because those are the two I quote the most/know the best.

3. And your ideal sex position? (If you would rather, since you have an alarming tendency to blush, just pick something you envision Jacob and Claire enacting.)

...Well, seeing as I've never had sex before, this becomes a very hard question to answer. And I don't think about it in that detailed of a sense. Nor do I actually imagine or picture Jacob/Claire having sex.

That just feels too much like Twilight, you know.

The normal one. That's the answer.

4. Why on earth are you a chemistry major? Explain without once using the word 'money.' Or any synonym, or any definition thereof, including, 'technically meaningless paper and coins exchanged for goods and/or services' or some variant. Thanks. We've all been wondering.

You just listed all the reasons why I'm going into it, though. And because, just really really really deep down, I'm a masochist.

Money=/= happiness. Money=path to happiness

The one thing I took from Ayn Rand that I still agree with. Never thought I'd say that.

5. If you could have any Doctor Who companion follow you around for a day, making conversation and just generally accompanying you through your daily life and activities, who would it be and why?

Hum. I feel like they'd all be pretty fun to have around. But for just day to day interactions or something of the sort?

Huh. Donna? She's funny, but kind of loud (and rude and ginger). Martha I never quite got a grasp for in just simple day to day conversation, but I'm sure she'd be able to hold up decent conversation. Amy would be fun and sassy, but she does have a tendency to ignore physical borders. I can't think of any objection to Rose, except that I'm not sure what we'd talk about.

Can't I just pick all of the ladies? That'd be AWESOME.

Or maybe Jack. HA. That'd be interesting for sure.

Oh, and not forgetting the 30 day meme.

Skipped Day 2, cause well. No intention of watching Classic Who, sorry.

Day 03 - Your Favourite New Series Episode

Ughh, this is hard. There's Human Nature/Family of Blood, but then also The End of Time, Waters of Mars, Journey's End and Doomsday. Aughhh.

This is difficult.

Probably The End of Time, just on the virtue of the sheer volume of stuff that it managed to cram in. And seriously, the end?

RTD, YOU.

ARE.

AWFUL.

Day 04 - Your Favourite Doctor

I like them all, but in different respects. Ten probably wins right now, just because I've seen him the most and because Tennant is kind of an amazing actor who manages to do angst really well.

Day 05 - Your Favourite Companion

Hum. Working with the main ones?

I don't know. I like all of them, but in different respects and the roles they play as the companion.

Rose- She gets the romance award, just cause. And Ten's actually happy when she's around! After that, he sort of goes into his angsty phase (don't blame him) and well, yeah. I like how the Doctor was when she was around, since when she was gone he just became majorly depressed.

Martha- Awesome character award. She walked across the Earth for a year. A YEAR.

I mean, she's easily one of the strongest companions in the new series, in that she manages to tough it out in a lot of circumstances you wouldn't easily expect her to.

To be fair, I'm not sure how I liked how she turned out in the end- becoming less of a 'doctor' and more of a solider. But I guess that's what the Doctor does to people.

Donna- Rude and ginger and loud. Yep. That's Donna for you. She's probably the most amusing of all the companions, and just fun to have around. She also has a nice character arc, almost as nice as Martha's, except the difference here is that at the end of the journey, she ends right back up where she started.

Which, personally, I find depressing as hell that she doesn't and can't even remember Ten.

Amy- She's funny, sassy, pushy and brought the Doctor back with HER IMAGINATION. She won't take no for an answer, and is headstrong enough and without none of that silly hero worship stuff that Nine and Ten inspired.

That may just be Eleven's face or something.

HEY HEY THE  BONES PROMO IS OUT (finallyish)!

Lookie  new haircut. There was a collective sigh of relief from multiple females around the world at the sight of that. Hem.I'm ambivalent. I was a fan of the longer hair, but that may because I'm used to it.

And Cam's the audience's shipper! I thought that was Angela, though. Or maybe the whole world is just catching on except for Booth and Brennan.

Return of girl time! That's good; we can all hope time away from the US has returned Brennan to her earlier state of not so awkward social grace.

AND LOOK A BLONDE LADY.

This is actually the most interesting thing about the promo- that there is another woman in the field now. Who looks kind of like S1's Tessa (whatever happened to her?) which may just say Booth likes blondes. Or attracts them.

Either way, there's another woman. Which I'm actually curious about, because it doesn't sound like that there's going to be a jealous catfight over Booth (which is a relief IMO) and that she'll actually get character and we'll hate/love her. YAY!

Of course, then the fangirl inside me just becomes slightly irked at another woman in the way of the OTP, but ah. Whatever. We'll see how it plays out.

Annnnnddd WAY OF KINGS COMES OUT VERY SOON. Too many distractions right now to properly fangirl on about it, though.

Above all things, most importantly and lastly- I AM ALIVE. Still. For now. Week one.

tv: doctor who, i'm such a dork, tv: bones, squee!, bureaucracy is loathsomely evil, memes!
