A Storybook Tale

Nov 21, 2008 08:03

It snowed, to start things off. Not like a marginal flurry that tends to crop up most of the time here, but enough snow to actually stick to the ground. In November, no less- how strange is that? I do know that I'm up north, but it's still very strange to see snow this early. And to see it at all, much less. Too bad it's too bloody cold outside though.
Moving on to slightly more relevant/possibly more interesting subjects.
I got my first real taste of organic chemistry today- the nomenclature, at least. And a little bit more in Grace's (lab leader) presentation on a drug designed for narcolepsy that apparently seemed to have effects in reducing overall interest in food in individuals suffering bulimia nervosa. It was actually interesting, but honestly, it was pretty hard to keep track of where things were going when you don't know what half the terms mean. Then I got a paper on...

Onto the compiled recordings of extreme sleep deprivation. Yesterday/today is the only complete all nighter I pulled, whereas with the others I did get an amount of sleep, just nothing more than 4 hours at most. The impacts of this sleep schedule, as noted, are:
1. General exhaustion, and a weird ache in my left shoulder.
2. Sleepiness (given)
3. Very short yet complete dreams occurring while napping for 45 minutes or so.
4. Seeing Vin, but not really seeing her.
5. Tendency to zone out in class, which seems to be the same thing as falling asleep to the body.
6. Mixing things up that I shouldn't be mixing up...Ie. electron orbitals became electrum shadows. I don't even remember writing electrum shadows on the problem, but I was going through it again and realized I must have slipped up. Multiple times. Over different things.

On the final note, Sanderson has two new annotations and an interview up. The interview didn't say much, other that make him out to be a nice guy (moreso than Goodkind) and that I totally know what I'm giving him when I hunt him down sometime later whenever he comes to GA for JordanCon- MTG cards.
Oh, and two song notes- for some reason, Cadence of Her Last Breath is working it's way up to be Sarene's song. Or Raoden, for that matter. Actually, Raoden might be better- it's not a theme song, but it works pretty well in describing their situation.

Why do I miss someone I never met?
With bated breath I lay
Sea winds brought her to me
A butterfly, mere one-day
Miracle of life
And all the poetry in the world
Finally makes sense to me
On the other hand, I vote for The Scientist as Elend's song in HoA during one particular scene. It could work from Vin's POV as well, but I didn't think it worked nearly as well.
Come up to meet you, (Elend's death)
Tell you I'm sorry,
You don't know how lovely you are.
I had to find you,
Tell you I need you,
Tell you I set you apart.
Tell me your secrets, (Come on...Trust?)
And ask me your questions,
Oh let's go back to the start.
Runnin' in circles,
Comin' up tails,
Heads on the science apart.
Nobody said it was easy,
It's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be this hard.
Oh take me back to the start.
I was just guessin',
At numbers and figures,
Pullin' the puzzles apart. (16!)
Questions of science,
Science and progress,
Do not speak as loud as my heart.
Tell me you love me,
Come back and haunt me,
Oh on I rush to the start.
Runnin' in circles,
Chasin' our tails,
Comin' back as we are.
Nobody said it was easy,
Oh it's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be so hard.
I'm goin' back to the start.
EDIT: Correct that, it's snowing again.

i'm such a dork, life is a farcical sitcom
