Summary:
Jensen is finding quarantine difficult and the beard he's been told to grow doesn't help matters.
Most of all though, he misses Jared.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Jensen flopped down on the couch, wondering how it had come to this.

Unlike Dean Winchester, Jensen had never been to Hell but he was beginning to believe that being in forced quarantine could be classified as some version of the infers.
Sure, it wasn’t the first time he’d had to go through this. In preparation for the last two episodes of Supernatural, it had been the same…and yet not, for he’d had a co-sufferer sharing his exile, albeit over the internet.

He thought back to how he and Jared had joked, complained, and teased their way through the two weeks of boredom. Even through the screen of a computer, Jared knew exactly the moment Jensen faltered, and he would instantly bolster him up with smiles and some stupid joke or a rehash of a ridiculous moment that had happened on the show or in their off-screen time.

On this occasion, however, Jensen was alone.
Jared was in Austin filming Walker, his work made more complicated by having to comply with all the safeguards and conditions imposed by the virus. It wasn’t easy and Jared had confessed his frustration at the way they had to shoot scenes, but Jensen sighed, at least Jared was in the company of living breathing humans, while he was stuck in this small apartment waiting to join the rest of the cast to finally get back in front of the cameras.

He wondered if he’d made the right choice in accepting the role of Soldier Boy. Enacting the role of a superhero had always been a childhood dream and he’d been enthusiastic at first. Moreover, he’d be working with Eric again and there were many people in the troupe whom he’d rubbed shoulders with on the Supernatural set.

Automatically a hand went to his beard. He’d had to grow it for the part and perhaps it had been one of the most annoying things ever. He hated it, for when he looked in the mirror, he no longer saw himself but some weird woodsman from the forest of Hell.

A smile came to his lips as he remembered how he and Jared had christened the woods they filmed in back in Vancouver with that very same name.
“We’re shooting a scene tonight at three a.m. in the forest of Hell,” Jared would huff as he browsed the filming schedule. “I hate these night shoots.”

Jensen’s smile grew wider remembering how Jared would fool around in his inimitable way, making even those night shoots feel less exhausting.
Afterward, practically asleep on their feet, holding each other up, they'd head off together to one of their trailers and flop down exhausted on the bed, too tired to even undress or shower.

Nothing improper had ever happened between them. They’d become, and remained, as close as brothers, but the potential for them to be more than that was ever-present, ever-possible, ever-alluring.
Both were aware that it would only take one little spark to start an inferno.

Many times, Jensen had found himself mesmerized by Jared’s lips, eyes, and fond touches, his body urging him to grasp what he sensed was there for the taking but he‘d never crossed that line.
He could see the same dilemma in Jared’s eyes, and Jensen was certain that if Jared had taken a step forward and kissed him, Jensen would have been lost in the wonder that was Jared Padalecki.

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, it hadn’t happened.
They’d both managed to keep that aspect under control. After all, they’d both married and were fathers, and Jensen could just imagine with horror what would happen to their lives if they ever surrendered to their feelings and engaged in a sexual relationship. The backlash would be enormous.

But at least one’s thoughts were one’s own and during these boring days, Jensen had given plenty of thought as to what could have been.
He and Jared; the magnetic pull they felt for each other given free rein, like wild stallions galloping through the endless plains, just the two of them, free to laugh, love, and be together. Their own little heaven, just as Sam and Dean now had theirs.
As the image faded and the room came back into focus, Jensen sighed.

By ending Supernatural, he and Jared had turned a page, though Jensen wasn't altogether convinced it had been a wise decision. But now it was a moot point.
He was glad that the younger man had his show to keep him occupied, Jensen had been afraid depression might have set in. Jared tended to get that way when he had too much free time on his hands.

Getting up off the couch, Jensen made his way to the kitchen and poured himself a coffee. If he didn’t get out of here soon, he’d be the one to lose his mind. His eyes strayed to the calendar on his phone. Still four days of solitary confinement.
To be honest, he was a little bit wary of what was waiting for him on the set of The Boys, but anything was better than this. He’d just have to channel some inner Dean and he’d be fine.

Just then the phone rang and as he picked up, Jared’s smile was the first thing he saw.

“Hey. I’m on a break from filming. I thought I’d call in for a quickie. You okay up there, mountain man?”
“I am now, “ Jensen replied.
