Oscar...things.

I only watched the last half hour of the Oscars. I love movies but award shows are kind of shite. Plus The Walking Dead and The Talking Dead were on and I wasn't about to miss them for another round of back-patting. I'm happy for Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway, unsurprised by Daniel Day-Lewis and freaking ecstatic for Quentin Tarantino. Best Screenplay is huge. It would have made my night if Django Unchained had won Best Picture but I figure people were uneasy voting for a movie that dropped the N-bomb so many times. Argo is a great movie, and I hope the Academy feels appropriately moronic for not nominating Ben Affleck for Best Director. He's won at just about every other directing award this season, ffs.

Much admiration for Jennifer Lawrence for falling on her butt on the stairs and getting up gracefully and being hilarious about it. Though if I was her I'd have waited because the two guys who ran up to help her were Hugh Jackman and Bradley Cooper. Good on them for being gentlemen.

The Avengers cast presenting was funny. I can only imagine what went on backstage and how long it took someone to realize what a bad idea it was to put them all together like that. I caught the Les Mis number on youtube this morning. Very nice. Better than Adele's performance of "Skyfall", but I think that had more to do with the sound equipment. Also with the fact that I don't really like that song. Speaking of things I don't like: Barbra Streisand? Really? And that weird little cast of Chicago reunion. WTF was that all about?

The biggest WTF of the evening was the presentation of the Oscar for Best Picture. Jack Nicholson I get. But Michelle Obama? What...?

Is she a director? Actress? Writer? Gaffer? Grip? Foley artist? Lighting assistant, maybe? She's got nothing to do with films except maybe viewing them. It was just so...weird and confusing.

bitching, wtfery, oscars
