"The Right Vote"

Oct 16, 2008 19:44

Today I went to my normal doctor's appointment for my quarterly blood tests. As it stands, we are starting the paperwork to get me enrolled in the state's ADAP and then start me on antivirals. I will most likely be started on Atripla. As the voter's registration office is just across the road from my doctor's office I decided to go vote by absentee ballot after my doctor's appointment. So, as of today, I have cast my vote for the next president of the United States. And now I am going to exercise my right to complain, specifically to complain about some campaign signage.

Where I live, in the backwoods, Lowcountry of South Carolina, there is a Republican candidate for county council whose sign reads "Mark Boyles, County Council, Nov. 4, The Right Vote". This one sign to me illustrates the extreme hubris of the Republican Party and also is rather insulting to me as a person. I find it insulting because I don't like to be told that my vote, if not for this particular person, is then WRONG. The right to vote, whether for Republican or Democrat, is never wrong. The fact that I exercise my right to vote, even if it's against a particular candidate, is never wrong. Because people like me walk up to the ballot and cast their vote should always, always be considered the right thing to do as Americans, never, never WRONG. This Republican should be ashamed of himself.
