kishenehn the other day just randomly mentioned this site,
StoodThere, the other day in his journal, so I thought I'd got take a look at it. Upon browsing through the site I thought, "hmm, I could do an entry based on this list." And thus we have the following entry based on the top 100 Greatest Places to Stand in the United States. Call it my own little meme. Therefore, in order of popularity, I hereby proclaim, that I've Stood There Too!!!
1. Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico
6. Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California
Actually stood at it's base at Ft. Point National Historic Site
25. Bourbon Street, New Orleans, Louisiana
Actually drunk my way up and down the street, when I did drink. ;-D
26. Grand Canyon, Arizona
Was an awesome experience hiking that Southern Rim.
30. Ft. Sumter, Charleston Harbour, South Carolina
31. Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona
32. Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine, Florida

Let's just say the view from the Observation Deck is awesome.
86. Wall Street, New York City, New York
96. Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida
Now of course there are some places in the Top 100 list that I would not have voted for had I had the chance before voting closed. And there are some where I had not been to the exact place listed, but I had been to a similar place. For example:
72. Totem Heritage Center, Ketchikan, Alaska
While I did not visit the Totem Heritage Center, I have stood within the Sitka National Historical Park in Sitka, Alaska which has it's own display of totem poles.
80. Glacier Bay, Alaska
I instead of have stood in front of Hubbard Glacier in Yakutat Bay/Disenchantment Bay which is now part of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, which is probably a 100 miles or more so north of Glacier Bay.
Places I've stood that I would have added to the list myself include:
- Multnomah Falls, Oregon
- Portland Rose Garden, Portland, Oregon
- Biltmore Estates, Asheville, North Carolina
- The Battery, Charleston, North Carolina
- Bunker Hill, Boston, Massachusetts
Then again, that's just me. :-)
