2009 Birthday Trip - Day 3 (Happy Birthday to Me)

May 13, 2009 21:52

Today was the day. Today I am 35. And after all I did today I sure do feel OLD. :-D

I started the day off bright and early. At 7:30 I walked into the Buckstaff Bathhouse and began my spa day. After stripping down to nothing, yes this is done in the nude, I first soaked in a bath of water straight from the Hot Springs at about 100 or so degrees. Then it was off to my Spitz bath followed by a couple of minutes in a steam box. Afterward I was laid down and wrapped up in hot towels and a sheet for about 10 minutes. To cap everything off I was treated to a Needle Shower, which is like 20 or 30 noozles almost surrounding you and blasting the entire body with hot spring water. Then I had my 30 minute massage. It was the perfect way to start off my 35th birthday.

After finishing up at Buckstaff I wandered along Bathhouse Row taking pictures at all the other bathhouses that used to operate in Hot Springs. At this point only two operate as bathhouses (Buckstaff and Quapaq), one (Fordyce) is the Visitor Center and Museum, and an other (Ozark) is the Museum of Contemporary Art. The others are in the process of being renovated with the possibility of more residents moving into them in the future.

I then wandered up to the hiking trails behind the bathhouses and proceeded to hike up the mountain toward the observation tower where I went to the top and took pictures of the surrounding areas.

After hiking back down I made my way back to my car and thus ended my day in Hot Springs. I'm on my way back home now and am currently in Jackson, Tennessee. Right now I plan to stop off in Chattanooga tomorrow night, wander around there, and hope to be back home by Friday evening. Definitely more to come.

(Again, I took a lot of pictures, 87 to be exact, and so I only processed one to go with the entry and will take care of the rest when I get home.)
