Not a Good Computer Week

Aug 14, 2010 02:11

We've been having a bunch of issues with our computer lately, so I spent two days this week backing up files I wanted to keep and then I formatted the hard drive. Then, of course, I spent two days updating Windows XP, since once reinstalled, it needed 5 years worth of updates. It IS kind of awesome having a computer with literally NOTHING other than the operating system. I may do this with the next computer I buy just to make absolutely sure it has ONLY what I want on it (which is usually not anything it comes with). Unfortunately, I was looking into the troubles I had been experiencing before the format and it does seem that the hard drive is slowly "falling down like dominoes" according to what I've read. We all know nothing lasts forever, I guess. Pair this with the fact that the processor ALSO took a nose dive and had to be replaced at work, and I'm getting a little tired of dealing with computers this week. Spent all morning on Wednesday AND Thursday on the phone with tech support. This pretty much happens every year, every August, because that's when Kodak rolls out the new software, so it WAS kind of expected, but both happening at home and work during the same week was a bit much. Pretty glad the week is OVER.
