i saw you in an airport
that very first time
with a smirk i looked up to the heavens
and asked God to put you on my flight
i never expected him to come through
but there you sat as down the aisle i passed
and gave me the next eleven hours
to come up with my next prayer
this time with a chuckle
i asked to put you on my bus tour
imagined what a romantic week in europe could do
for two total strangers i'd ask too
and still to this day i cannot believe
what projected through my eyes as i climbed aboard
straight back down the asile
the dirty blonde from hours before
at that moment i was a believer
only God could make these dreams come true
from one country to the next
our story would gain its legs
a smile in vienna
a joke in rome
a look in venice
a drink in prague
by the time that plane took off again
we had our stories
we had our song
we couldn't help but start looking ahead
by the time that plane landed
reality began to kick in
and while looking ahead
we forgot the present
opposite coasts
might as well have been different worlds
those countries we traveled through together
now seemed closer than where we were headed to
slowly our european love faded
a tragic love story gone awry
but every time that song comes on
i still smile and ask to hold your hand
