IC:

Character name: Yuyuko Saigyouji
Fandom: Touhou Project
Timeline: After Scarlet Weather Rhapsody
Age: Unknown, but we know that she died at least 1000 years ago.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Yuyuko has the usual danmaku and spell card abilities that many residents of Gensokyo share: hers follow the theme of ghosts and butterflies. She also has the ability to invoke death upon mortals through thought alone; basically all Yuyuko has to do is wish that someone will die, and they will. Once they are dead, she has control over their spirits. Lastly, as a ghost, she is essentially immortal; since her dead body is trapped beneath a cursed cherry tree, she cannot reincarnate or fade away, and will remain a ghost forever.
How would they use their abilities?: It is important to note that Yuyuko’s ability to invoke death is not used irresponsibly. She doesn’t use it as a weapon, nor does she use it as a means to punish someone. In fact, she tries not to use it at all if she can help it, but only in very drastic measures.
As for her danmaku and spell cards, Yuyuko will use them much more often, though not usually outside a battle.
Appearance: Basically like this. A young woman of average height, with maroon eyes and wavy, shoulder-length pink hair. She is usually surrounded by low-level ghosts, who appear as white blobs. She wears a blue burial kimono and a matching mob cap. On the cap is the traditional headwear said to be worn by ghosts, which has a ghost symbol on it.
Background/Personality:
Yuyuko is the “ghost princess” of Hakugyokurou, the ghost shrine that overlooks the netherworld. As such, for the most part she comes across as an air-headed upper-class lady: she is playful, friendly, and full of charm, but often prone to making almost nonsensical remarks and generally being a ditz. She also loves to eat, and will usually have some kind of food-related metaphor ready for the conversation at hand. Yuyuko is shown to have a whimsical sense of humour, and likes to show her fondness for her serious and straight-laced servant Youmu by playfully teasing her. In fact, one would think that despite being in such a high position of power-that is, ruler of part of the netherworld, a place where souls go after their human bodies have died-that she doesn’t take such a position seriously at all, or anything else for that matter.

However, Yuyuko is more than she seems. Though she may come across as a ditzy princess, she is actually quite cunning and insightful, and is knowledgeable in many subjects; she often spends her time browsing the library at Hakugyokurou. Her disarming personality can hide the fact that she is one of the tougher residents of Gensokyo, being skilled in the art of fighting with danmaku and spell cards. She also has another, more terrifying ability: the power to invoke death in mortals with mere thought alone. While it may seem frightening that someone like Yuyuko would wield such a power, she is actually very responsible with it, never using it as a weapon or out of spite. Despite this, it was the fact that she had this power that caused her to become a ghost in the first place.

A thousand years ago, Yuyuko was an ordinary human. She had been born with the power to kill, and eventually it drove her mad with fear, causing her to commit suicide. Her body was later used to seal a youkai cherry tree called Saigyou Ayakashi; interestingly, it had initially become a youkai because Yuyuko’s father, a celebrated poet, had chosen to die beneath it, believing it to be the most beautiful cherry tree he could find. It eventually began to entice people to their deaths, and to put a stop to its destruction it was sealed away using a dead body; in this case, it was, of course, Yuyuko’s. After spending many years as a ghost, Yuyuko forgot all about her life, and eventually hatched a plan to revive the dead body sealing the tree out of curiousity, unaware that the body was her own. Once she realized whose body it was, however, she decided to abandon her plan, realizing that even though she herself would be resurrected, the cherry tree would unleash doom upon mankind if it were unsealed. She still remains a ghost, and will continue to do so for eternity, unable to fade away or reincarnate.

Despite her rather sordid past, Yuyuko remains bubbly and cheerful, though this is probably because she has spent a long time with no memories of her life as a mortal. Still, she is content with her life as a ghost, and will continue to be content for many years to come. Though one may see glimpses of a much wiser person than she shows herself to be, that doesn’t change the fact that Yuyuko is a warm, friendly person, always ready for a chat and maybe a little bit of good-hearted teasing. Despite the hardships she has gone through, she is truly happy where she is.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Flaming ferret, accepting missions, mooching off other people, freelancing.

1st person sample:
[The feed turns on to show a young woman fiddling with the Guide. Small ghostly blobs float lazily around her, and she’s wearing traditional Japanese burial robes and a cap.]

…is this on? Hello? Hello?

Why, indeed it is! I’m so glad. I never did understand how these electric shikigami worked…my, but doesn’t technology develop so quickly over time! They never had things like this when I was still alive.

Now then! I’m told this shikigami can allow one to communicate with others over long distances. Youmu, if you’re here, please let me know. I’d hate to think that you’ve been blown up with the rest of Gensokyo.

And if anyone here is from Gensokyo, please let me know as well! Or if you aren’t, feel free to reply anyway. I suppose I have a good deal more time on my hands now that the Netherworld is gone, so I wouldn’t say no to a nice chat with someone, even if I don’t know them.

[She looks up to the side, and her expression darkens ever so slightly.] Dear me, but is Hakugyoukuro really gone? I still have a hard time believing it…

[She seems to remember that she’s still on the feed, and her head snaps back up to attention.] Oh, silly me! Don’t mind the ramblings of a foolish young spirit.

[She smiles and takes out her fan, fanning herself with it idly.]
3rd person sample:
The cherry blossoms were blooming beautifully as usual. Yuyuko hummed to herself as she glided through her gardens; she had just had some green tea and a few snacks, so she was feeling particularly at peace just now. There was nothing like good food and a beautiful view, though usually she didn’t have anyone to share it with other than the ghosts, and Youmu was too duty-bound to join her, usually mumbling something about being “only a servant”. Ah, well. It would only be a matter of time before the girl gave in, and both of them had plenty of that.

After a few minute’s walking, Yuyuko realized that it had been a long time since she’d paid a visit to the Saigyou Ayakashi. She was bound to it in a way, after all; her body sealed the tree, and the tree sealed her body. So she made her way over to where the youkai cherry tree stood, in all its splendour. It was hard to believe that such a gorgeous tree had caused so many deaths. This included her own father, in a way, though that was before it had become a youkai. Still, one could argue that even then its loveliness could invite mortals to their deaths, though her father had known his time was drawing near, Yuyuko knew. He had simply wanted to depart this life in peace. No one could fault him for that.

Yuyuko reached out and ran her hand over the trunk of the tree. “Hello, old friend,” she said. And she meant that honestly; the tree was an old friend, as old as she was, and as long as it was here, it would not do her or anyone else harm. “Your blossoms are lovely as usual. What’s your secret?”

No response. Even youkai trees knew to hold their tongues.

“I won’t pry, then,” Yuyuko smiled. And she continued on her way.

Questions?: Nope!
Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Most definitely.
