IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just about, lol. i broke off a brace that keeps the wheel on the side plate for it to function properly. i was adjusting it (with a small hammer) down a bit because it was too loose, and its rivit broke. so i tried to make another one, and while working the wheel, its rivit broke. however! i did find that the lock fuctions in a "goldielocks zone" (not too hot, not too cold, etc. or in my case not too wide, not too narrow) and i have to find it and fix it in with a permenant brass brace. it'll take about 20 minutes to craft the rough shape of the brace and rivit it to the plate, and about another 1/2 hour+ to fit it up right and then final shaping to make it pretty. so i'll take care of that tonight/tomorow and go from there. actually, tomorow i'll skip around and do other things. i need to make two bolts called lock bolts that secure the lock in the stock, and two escutions (fancy washers that spread the stress of the bolts out) for the bolts, and what is known as a thimble. the thimble is basically a small tube, about an inch and some long, that holds the ramrod when its not being used to re-load the gun. those shouldnt take me too long to do, im pretty quick with the lathe, and i know more or less what i want to create.
other than that, not a whole lot has been going on. the wheellock has consumed alot of my time for the past few weeks, lol. i've been finishing up my various firearms. i have a stevens favorite single-shot .22 that i crafted a new stock for thats getting finish applied, which is almost done. another few days and it should be close to finished. im also refinishing the metal work with lots of polishing, recutting checkering, rebluing, re-color case hardening, and also nitre bluing a few bits. in the end this will be a beautiful gun. also i have my mauser rifle stock thats is pretty much done. i only wish i had finer sand paper to finish it, the finest i have currently is 1500 grit. and grits of paper go into the micron scale. for a sence of scale, a micron or micrometer is 1 millionth of a meter, or 1/10 the diameter of a droplet of fog. yea, thats frickin' tiny!
and now after i have confused you with my jargon, im off to sleep.
night night!
