Given how absolutely mad large parts of her life had become during the past month, Annie was more than happy to seek out the company of those who were less involved in then others. It wasn't that she didn't want to be there for her nearest and dearest while they went through big, massive changes in their lives (both good and bad), but she needed a ( Read more... )

When the number of friends she has here has dwindled so considerably in the year and change she's been on the island, Lexie finds herself that much more attached to those she does have because of it. Annie easily counts among them. Smiling instinctively, she waves in turn, staying put for a few seconds until the distance between them is closed and she can greet Annie properly. "Hey," she says warmly, pleased and not bothering to hide it. "How's it going? You headed somewhere?"

The grin was still on her face as she tucked a wayward curl behind her ear only to bob her head and have it spring loose. It was always doing that only now she stopped giving it much notice. She mostly glad that she didn't have to look much further.

"No, I'm not headed somewhere. Well I was, but I was looking for you actually," she explained with a hasty shake of her head. "Which I think is some place. But I'm alright. Things have been mad. How are you?"

"You were coming to look for me?" Lexie asks, oblivious to any questions directed at her in the face of something like that. She's glad for it, of course, as she tends to be when she's the person someone goes to, but between that and Annie's having said that things have been mad, she has to wonder if there might be something more going on. At least, based on the grin Annie wore, it doesn't seem to be anything medical. She's always glad for patients, but not at the expense of a friend's well-being. Nodding a little, she says, "What's going on?"

"I was!" Annie's enthusiasm was still dialed up a bit more than was actually proper and it took her a moment to dial it back down to a normal level. It was a bit harder than normal but she was able to contain herself. It wasn't as if there was any real reason for her to be so upbeat other than sheer force of will.

"Oh nothing serious. I just wanted to check in on my friends who aren't currently brooding or worried about their unborn children and that sort of thing. You know how it is."

"Oh," Lexie says, eyes wide and lips still formed in a little 'o' even after the syllable has left her mouth. It all sounds dramatic to her, but then, she so rarely has anything going on these days that she's not in a position to judge. Back in Seattle, it would have sounded tame, but around here, it's interesting, enough to pique her curiosity. "Well, I'm alright, you know, nothing out of the ordinary going on. What's this about brooding and unborn children?"

It took Annie a moment to figure out how she was going to approach this. It would be perfectly reasonable to ease her way in, to bring it up in stages and explain the background. But Annie's felt a bit too pent up about this sort of thing for a while now. The moment she opened her mouth it all just started to spew out.

"Excellent." She grinned absolutely meaning it. "Oh you know, George and Nina are having their baby soon and Mitchell's gone off the deep end and with good reason and no one is really talking about it. It's just hard. Very dramatic."

"That... sounds like it," Lexie says, eyes wide, certain there's something here that she's got to be missing. She knows George - or, rather, she met George one time, he made really, really good food - but not the others, and it's all kind of confusing in a way that probably shouldn't be. "Alright. Okay. I think you need to start from the beginning with this, because I'm definitely missing something."

Taking a deep breath, Annie nodded as she worked herself slowly back down to where she could get started. It was going to require quite a bit of explaining and was probably going to get worse before it gets better. But it was worth a shot. After all she had to confide in someone who wasn't wholly wrapped up in the thing.

Gesturing in the direction of the kitchen she said, "Maybe over a cuppa? I think it would help."

"Yeah," Lexie agrees, nodding in turn, already starting in that direction and beckoning Annie with her. The weird British terms have taken a little while to get used to, but she doesn't blink now, certain that it's a good idea. The kitchen might not be the most private of places, but they can always go elsewhere if they need to anyway; it's just a starting point. "It will. We'll do that, and then you can... start from the beginning?"

"Yes. From the beginning is better otherwise you might never catch up."

It was a bit like turning into watch EastEnders after months of not watching. One had to do a bit of catch up reading or watch with a friend and even that wasn't the easiest thing in the world.

Heading into the kitchen she filled the kettle and flicked it on, drumming her fingers against the counter. "It's all bit mental really. Even the normal stuff."

"Yeah, tell me about it," Lexie says with a faint laugh, leaning sideways against the counter so she can still sort of face Annie as she talks. The chances of getting interrupted are always so high here, but it's still one of her favorite places to come in a time of emotional crisis or whatever (though that's mostly for the amount of food kept around). Normal things being crazy is something she has a good deal of experience with, anyway, leaving her to feel a little better equipped to handle all of this. "So... where does it start?"
