never gone, ASOIAF, Cersei/Jaime magisterequitum November 26 2011, 00:51:00 UTC
Once they ran these halls together.

Twins of bright gold, shining hair and heads bent to touch so that none could tell who was who. Shrieking laughter and loud screams, even after their mother's passing.

The Rock had been theirs above all others.

---

"So this is where they sent you."

She does not bother to turn her head to look at him.

He moves further into her room, boots heavy thuds on the stone floors. "The Lion Queen, confined to the Rock."

Still Cersei says nothing. Proud sister of his, half to his half to make one whole. She sits on the window sill, body towards the open window and the sea below.

Her hair has just only grown to the bottom curve of her jaw.

---

"Westeros burns. The Keep is all but abandoned, and the wolves and dragons march together with spears. It is--"

Jaime is cut off, and she speaks for the first time since he made haste here nights ago.

"Why do you think I care?" Her hands are claws where she grips her spoon, hovering over the bowl of soup on the table before them. They eat in her room, his room, their room.

"You should care," Jaime tells her.

Her face transforms into a snarl, lips pulled back over her teeth, and her cheeks are hollow things. A lioness still. "I do not. Let them have it." She laughs, and it is not the ones from their childhood, but a laugh of bitterness and dark joy. "What I left of Westeros they are free to have."

The soup sticks in his throat, and sits heavy after he swallows.

---

They will not let her live. He neither, but now, in this moment, her they want more.

He does it while she sleeps, fits his hand around her neck and squeezes. He takes care to use his good hand, mindful of what her feelings.

It is the easiest and hardest thing he has ever done as her green eyes, his eyes, fly open to stare at him one last time.

---

Once they ran these halls together.

Now, he walks them alone in body, but sees her at every turn.

This is freakin' amazing. It's tragic and broken and it's yeah, exactly where we are and where they end up and guh, he uses his good hand. Of course. Every word of this is more Lannister than Lannister, I just cannot.
