nano-wrimo thirty day challenge, days one and two

Oct 07, 2011 16:33

Already posted this one on tumblr, but I think I'll do the bulk of this meme over here, so reposting. If anyone's interested in doing this meme, all the days are here.

And if anyone else is doing nano, let me know! I want to hear all about it.

Day 1 - Have you participated in NaNoWriMo before?  If so, which years and what end result?  If not (or even if so, for that matter), what’s your connection to writing?  Why do you want to participate this year?

First thing you should know about me and Nano is that I am cheating. I am trying to up my word count on something I already am working on. I am damned to hell. That said, I have participated before. I participated last year for about ten days, gave up and tried another idea. I have been working on said “other idea” for the last year and it’s the novel I’m working on now. Go figure.

Day 2 - What’s the title of your story?  Why did you choose the name you did?

I don’t have one at the moment. It used to be “Unquiet Slumbers” after the line in Wuthering Heights-“anyone could imagine unquiet slumbers for the sleepers in that quiet earth” but something about it seems too over the top for me now. Or I could go back to it, but I don’t know. I chose it because it’s a novel about a family where all the women who are born or married into commit suicide. The mother of the current family becomes convinced that the previous women are haunting her and it’s never clear whether or not it’s her imagination or not. Her elder daughter (my protagonist) sometimes sees the women and sometimes doesn’t and is unsure of her own mental state. So-hence title.
