Case Five

[If anyone's been looking for Motoko recently, she's been hidden away on that shuttle, trying to find a way to get it to fly. But now, there are a couple of wires plugged into the back of her neck, slightly visible as she sits in the pilot's chair. One leads to her Sphere and another continues on to a port on the control panel. She looks a little ( Read more... )

What're you doing!? [Staring at the wires sticking out.]

[Okay, now she notices that it started broadcasting. Damn it....]

I was trying to see if I could get this thing to fly, but nothing's worked so far.

Lyle couldn't either-- maybe it's broken.

As far as I can tell, it's not broken. The DNA recognition system isn't hackable, no matter what I try. It needs the correct sample, no two ways around it.

DNA?

Deoxyribonucleic acid, it's what makes up peoples' genetic information. [And to save them both a bit of pain, she sends him a quick little fact sheet on DNA.]

Genetic information usually determines your appearance, along with a few other functions.

[Hopefully that makes more sense....]

That makes sense! [....kind of.] But how does it have anything to do with running the ship? They're two completely different concepts, aren't they?

The ship requires a specific sample of DNA in order for it to run. But why they would send a shuttle without the pilot whose DNA is required to get this thing off the ground, I'll never know. [Scowls over at the control panel.]

And the captain isn't even here! What if he fell out and his body is somewhere? Would it still work somehow?

Unless we can find a trace of him anywhere, it's not looking like it can. I've tried hacking the system to recognize another DNA sequence as the one it's supposed to be, and to think it's already been given the correct DNA, but nothing's worked.

Well I'm not givin' up so soon!

I'm not giving up just yet. I still have a couple other things to try before I call it quits.

Let me know if there's anything I can do, too!

If I can think of anything, I will.
