There's so much good in this fic, I don't know where to begin. Sam imploding, Dean exploding and Bobby's steadying hand, trying to guide them both.
I think this is just a superb character study of the brothers grieving. And the ending is nicely understated...no pounding of chests or screaming matches. Just the brothers acting like brothers again which is my all time favorite. *hugs*

And man, Dean could use this talk again in S4--he doesn't seem to remember it at all!
Lovely piece here. I do love your work.

I was going through a file of old docs and found this one, complete except for the ending. It was the fact that it seemed to fit S4 so well that gave me the ending. To think, I thought the boys relationship was getting rocky in S2. *rolls eyes at self*
Thank you so much for the kind words :) I feel doubly complemented because I love your stories so much. :)

John had his own problems, and scared as he was, I think both boys needed to know what John knew, not just Dean, ouch! But Dean needed somebody to tell him what he already knew about Sam, too.
And Sam needed to feel it.
(bobby's so smart!)

and, yeah... John telling Dean what little he did, and giving no explanation, and telling Sam *nothing*...It's possibly the worst thing John could have done. To both of them.
At the same time, it was soo in character for John. He'd been on his own so long, and protecting the boys from knowing what he knew.
And, yeah, Dean needed someone to tell him that it just didn't matter. Because I truly think that was the beginning of the break between the two boys. After all, how can you trust someone who might go 'bad'? How can you love someone you might have to kill?
So, yeah, Dean needed someone to tell him that he could love Sam anyway.
Thanks for the review! so glad you enjoyed it :)
