YULETIDE, FINALLY

Dec 25, 2011 01:00

Dear Yuletide Writer

Hello there! Sorry if I've led you a merry dance, but this letter is finally up now. I'm horribly disorganised. Sorry, sorry, and thank you! Thanks for giving of your time to make me something nice this holiday season. I already know you're pretty amazing, seeing as we share at least one SUPER COOL FANDOM YEAH. You and me, we're gonna get along just fine.

Now I'm pretty sure I already tl;dr'd enough in the sign up but I did sign up in a hurry so if there's anything I missed out I will ramble on here and hopefully you'll have everything you could ever possibly want to know about me and more? Cool. So.

EVERWORLD
my optional details: There is so much I'd like to see in this world! It could be how gods from a pantheon not already covered in the books interact with the other gods and the kids - how they fit into Everworld. Or, because the ending was an INTERMINABLE CLIFFHANGER, I'd like to see... just a little bit of what happened next. Oh and I'd always like to see more of April and Jalil's relationship, because those two fascinate me with their dynamic. But really anything Everworld would make me happy.

That last sentence there is the key one. I grew up reading Animorphs, of course, but I also fell in love with Everworld along the way. As a kid with an interest in ancient mythology (isn't that every kid?) Everworld was fascinating to me. On my reread earlier this year, I just got hooked all over again. The ending, which I'd somehow managed to forget, was a huge let down. There are 50+ Animorphs books to plough through and only 12 Everworld books and that makes me sad. Just write me anything in this universe and I will be content. As I mentioned, April and Jalil are my favourites and I think their interaction is really interesting, in the way that their fundamental beliefs differ wildly but they still frequently find themselves on the same side. But please just write me all of the Everworld, any of the Everworld. I love it so.

OTHELLO
my optional details: So Iago and Emilia are kind of my Shakespeare OTP - I don't know, I have a weakness for snarky horrible relationships like theirs. I'd just like to know more about them: how did they meet, why are they together, how do they even work? Iago's obviously been the focus of a lot of "WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THAT GUY?" speculation over the years, but I think Emilia is interesting too! Desdemona's in the character list because I like Desdemona, and the scene between her and Emilia is one of my favourites in the play, so if she can turn up too that'd be great. But yeah. Othello.

I don't really have much to add to that. I've seen Othello three times (including the Ewan McGregor Iago/Chiwetel Ejiofor Othello and that was awesome). It's probably my favourite tragedy. I've also played Emilia, thus my soft spot for her. I read a fic ages ago about Iago and Emilia's first meeting and it was just so twisted and weirdly sexy and I want more, all the time. In one of the productions I saw, there was a bit where the two of them were getting sexy, and someone behind me whispered loudly, "Ew! They're old!" NO. DON'T SPEAK THAT WAY ABOUT MY OTP. You are utterly free to do what you want with them if you write them for me, though. Iago especially is famously up for interpretation, as I so elegantly pointed out in my request.

DARK IS RISING SEQUENCE
my optional details: Bucking the trend of Bran/Will shipping, we get a hint of something between Jane and Bran at the end of the books. I'd like to think they stayed in touch. What I'd especially like to see is Jane showing Bran around Trewissick because I think it would be sweet. But mainly just lots of beautiful scenery would make me happy, Trewissick or no, because the sense of place in the novels is one of my favourite things about the Dark is Rising sequence.

Feel free to throw any shipping out of the window, of course. I have lots of feelings about these books. I think I probably have more feelings about the overall world and atmosphere of them than I do about the individual characters, actually. I'm going to level with you: I'm currently in France and I miss the UK. These books are Britain for me, thus my jonesing for beautiful scenery. I mean, I am even considering writing my dissertation on Susan Cooper's Britain. I just love the setting of these books so muuuuuuuuch. Don't worry if you don't feel you can do the glory of the British Isles justice, though (and also I am suddenly patriotic?) I'll love anything based on the Dark is Rising sequence because how can you not?? Also, Jane. Jane is great.

DINOSAUR COMICS
my optional details: This is just a crack-y request but I love Dinosaur Comics and would read literally anything about witty dinosaurs telling jokes because there is frankly nothing better than that. NOTHING. (Also I ship Ryan North and Andrew Hussie, so you totally get bonus points if you can find a way to incorporate that... this is an unrepentantly silly request.)

I love Dinosaur Comics more than anything. It brings almost daily light into my life. T-Rex is just a giant scaly green version of my bff and I love him for it. Too much of my online typing style is lifted from him/Ryan North/the comic. RANDOM CAPS and proclaiming things to be awesome. What I am trying to say is, if you have chosen to write Dinosaur Comic fic, you have already won Yuletide. You are the winner. If you want more prompts than just "haha dinosaurs!" then maybe you could tell the story of just what Utahraptor gets up to when he's not busy making sure T-Rex isn't being too ludicrous. And what about T-Rex and Dromiceiomimus? WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THOSE TWO? But seriously go anywhere you want with this. Nowhere is too silly! Get meta! Find a way of mimicking the unchanging format through words! Or something! Man, Dinosaur Comics are the best comics! p.s. Hussie/North otp and don't you forget it.
