I think it was gradual. The last case pretty clearly shows Nick being the same as always when he's investigating stuff seven years previously, so that part definitely stuck around for a long time. Once he went through that initial period of investigation, though, and realized he might not get a chance to make things right for a loooong time, I think he got kind of depressed. I could see him being a dumbass and shutting eeeveryone out of his life for a while. Not forever -- Maya sends him DVDs, after all, and there doesn't seem to be a strained relationship between the two, but there would have been at least a couple months like that, if not a year. And during that time, when the only thing he has to do is take care of his tiny little magician daughter ... he got in the habit of letting things slide. And sliiiide. Until, somewhere in there, he just got kind of zen about the whole thing. He'd had his youthful enthusiasm kind of torn up a bit, but he's still determined. ... so instead of being enthusiastic and neurotic, he got calm. He's always been pretty pessimistic, I think; it just took a different form when he got de-lawyered.

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT APOLLO. How did he grow up?

H-hahaha I haven't decided 100% yet but! A lot of fandom likes the idea of punk/street kid Apollo. I DO NOT though the art is v. cool |D He's just. . .waaay too straight and narrow and dorktastic to come from that kind of background, I think, and he's only 22 and still pretty young in his own right.

He probably grew up in one of those foster homes with lots of kids coming in and out or had rotating foster parents/caretakers. One day, he saw one of the caretakers watching one of those daytime court shows,, like Judge Mathis or something and thought it was awesome and INTENSE. WHO WAS RIGHT? WHO WAS WRONG? HE WAS INSPIRED!1 And began watching them as well, gradually leading up to him reading the newspapers about more serious cases and researching them.

So he vowed to study as hard as possible to become a lawyer himself and busted his ass to get a scholarship that would help get him through law school. Still had to take out lots of loans and whatnot but whatever, it was his DREAM!1ONE and he set off when he was 17/18 :|b He probably took mini courses in high school as well.

AS FOR HIS THING WITH PUNCHING PEOPLE. He was the kind of kid that got picked on. Unfortunately for the bullies, he was also the kind of dork that knew how to fight back just because he was a dumb and easily excitable boy. "Hahaha, reading more MATH antennae hea--" "*PUNCH*" "APOLLO JUSTICE, GO TO THE CORNER." " .... ._."

...THAT WAS LONGER THAN I EXPECTED uh! Watanuki! More thoughts on the whole demons like how he smells/want to eat him. Does he ever think this is useful or use it to his advantage? I don't really know the canon :o
