pseudo_tsuga said I should be a good unnie and take responsibility for pulling her into dark side of Super Junior. So here is the primer on them I promised I'd put together.
Super Junior is a South Korean idol group/boy band that debuted in 2005. They have 15 members--well, officially the number is less, with two members being more honorary/guest members (for reasons I'll explain later) in one of their sub-groups, and one having parted ways with their label SM Entertainment. Although I like to say there are 15 for sentimental reasons.
They originally started out as Super Junior 05 (the 05 indicating the year, 2005) with the intention for new members to come in after older members "graduated" (they began like a rotational group à la Morning Musume), but this was quickly changed once they gained a large popularity. They've released four Korean studio albums (Super Junior05, Don't Don, Sorry Sorry, and BONOMANA), have branched out into four sub-groups and have performed three concert tours known as Super Shows.
Super Junior--commonly abbreviated to Suju or SJ--are pretty much the biggest group of dorks ever. They sing and dance, they act, MC, model, star in variety shows, they do so much! They've even had their own movie Attack on the Pin-up Boys.
Sapphire Blue is their official color, and their fanclub is known as ELF, Ever Lasting Friends
MEMBERS
(NOTE: The pronunciation for their names here is my very basic approximation. And if I've at all made any mistakes, please let me know? For a far more thorough look into their names --pronunciation, meanings, etc--
check out this post; it might make your head spin, but it is amazing.

Eeteuk
real name: Park Jungsu (Eeteuk means "special". His name is also commonly romanized as Leeteuk)
pronunciation: I-teuk; first syllable pronounced like the letter 'E', second syllable similar to the word "took")
birthdate: July 1, 1983 (Seoul, South Korea)

Super Junior's leader by default of being the oldest, Eeteuk is sorta like the mother of the group. Usually the main speaker at concerts, events and variety shows, you can tell he makes an effort to get the other members involved. Gotta give him credit for managing and caring for such a large group of boys.
Teuk is the type that prefers working, and even came in second for Hardest Working Idol in 2009; actually he seems pretty antsy whenever he does get vacation time. He's been involved in many variety shows--as both MC and guest--where his hosting skills and comedic work has been praised. Right how he's one of the DJs on Kiss the Radio (SUKIRA) and also a permanent guest on Strong Heart, where his Teukigayo segment is popular.
He's generally calm--except when he's being teased by his bandmates or playing up his comedy routines--but that's not to say he doesn't have his down moments. Fandom has given him the nickname EmoTeuk due to his sometimes rather depressing entries in his cyworld. He does cry easily, although that's over both happy and sad things. He's also a little prone to foot-in-mouth syndrome, and has a tendency to say things for the sake of fans and unintentionally getting their hopes up, but he means well.
Teuk has the
most unique and
hilarious laugh ever. He's usually one of the members stuck playing the girl's role in skits and whatnot, but that's because
he's just so damn pretty.
Heechul
full name: Kim Heechul
pronunciation: he-chul; first syllable like the word "he", second syllable pronounced like the word "gull" but with a "ch-" sound instead of a "g-"
birthdate: July 10, 1983 (Seoul, South Korea)
animal hat:
catvegetable:

Kim Heechul is the perfect example of a
4D person. Sassy and fabulous, he's someone with a personality that people either love or hate. He's a very direct person, unafraid to say what he honestly thinks, which can come off as rude and mean to some. But he's also one of the rare idols to speak up against anti-fans (for both himself and other idols), and he often shows support for up and coming groups. He's a bit of an oddity.
He's a hard person to get close to, as Siwon, a fellow Suju member, has said, but he does have a tender and caring side, even if his affection is sometimes shown through insults and punches and kicks. Heechul is not a strong singer or dancer, but when he does something he goes all out.
Besides Suju, Heechul has acted in dramas such as Rainbow Romance and Loving You Ten Million Times, and appeared on many variety shows as both guest and MC. Recently he ended his own radio show Heechul's Youngstreet which he was MC for since March 2009.
Known to be a
netizen, Heechul is very active on twitter, and often spams with pictures and fanart of himself (let's not mention those damned
steamed buns). He has two cats--
Heebum and Baengsin--that he also often spams pics of on twitter like a crazy cat person.
Let's face it, Kim Heechul
is prettier than all of us. No,
seriously. But I think its totally evened out by the fact he has the
most maniacal laugh ever (this is from their Refreshing Game, which I can explain more of if you'd like).
Han Geng
full name: Han Geng (in Korea he went under the stagename Hankyung)
pronunciation: Geng; pronounced like "gung" from "gung ho"
birthdate: February 9, 1984 (Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang, China)
animal hat:
dragonvegetable: N/A
sub-groups: Super Junior-M
Of
Nanai descent, Han Geng started to learn dancing at a young age and attended a dance academy in Beijing where he mastered the 56 Chinese minority dances. He also learned ballet and martial arts during this time. In 2001 he auditioned for SM Entertainment by the persuasion of a friend at an audition held in China, and was later chosen among the 3,000 contestants to become a trainee. Moving to Seoul, South Korea, he had lessons in singing, dancing, acting and the Korean language before being chosen to debut in Super Junior.
In the beginning he had performance restrictions as his Chinese passport limited his promotional activities and appearances on various Korean broadcast corportations. He would perform on stage with a mask and a hat on to hide his face in order to bypass these restrictions. Eventually he was revealed to the media when Heechul publicly removed his mask. Han Geng is one of the first Chinese citizens to have a presence in the Korean entertainment scene.
One of the group's main dancers, he's
known for his
dance skills onstage, and his very humble and sweet personality off. He oftens tells fans that instead of spending money on him (since fans often buy rather expensive gifts for idols) that they should instead make donations to charities. Han Geng, himself, is also known for being charitable; among some of the things he done, he has sponsors children and donated most of his income in 2008 to go toward those affected by the Sichuan earthquake. When Super Junior-M debuted, he became leader and would take care of the other members while they were out promoting in China and Taiwan since most of them, with the exception of Zhou Mi, were still learning Mandarin.
He's especially close to Heechul and Siwon: Heechul being one of his first friends and someone who often publicly supported him (such as saying he shouldn't be hated against for being Chinese because "he is Korean now"); and Siwon being another
very supportive friend who was so close Siwon considered Han Geng his
sworn brother.
December 21, 2009, Han Geng filed for contract termination against SME due to unfair contract issues--such as being fined for missing appearances and being denied days off--and also health matters. He's currently enjoying a very successful solo career in China where his popularity is incredible, and has released his first solo album Geng Xin . He will soon be starring in a movie with Wu Chun called My Kingdom. In his spare time he likes to chill with his chinchillas.
Yesung
real name: Kim Jongwoon (Yesung in Hanja translates to "art-like voice")
pronunciation: Yeh-sung; first syllable pronounced like "yes" without the "s", second syllable like the word "sung"
birthdate: August 24, 1984 (Cheonan, South Chungcheong, South Korea)
animal hat:
turtlevegetable:
broccolisub-groups: Super Junior KRY, Super Junior Happy
Another oddball of Super Junior, Yesung is simultaneously one of Suju's best vocalists, as well as Suju's biggest failboat. His mother is actually the one who signed him up for an audition held by SME in 2001, so thanks, umma!
He sings in a beautiful baritone that often gets him voted as one of the best voices in Korea. He's contributed as a solo artist to the OSTs of various dramas, such as
It Has To Be You for Cinderella's Sister and
Love Really Hurts for Tazza. Yesung has also starred in several musicals, including Hong Gil Dong and Spamalot where he performed as one of the main leads, Sir Galahad. He has had his own radio program that was called Miracle For You, and has hosted for MBC Love Chaser and MUZIT. He recently ended his stint as a co-host with Eeteuk on Kiss the Radio while Eunhyuk was off promoting with Super Junior-M.
On variety shows, Yesung has a propensity toward fail (re: any episode of Explorers of the Human Body) as well as being an
eternal source of
secondhand embarrassment. He also has a tendency to say
ridiculous things with a straight face, has his own
special way of dancing and oh yeah, he has a
certain thing for touching philtrums.
Obviously he has a very unique sense of humor. Even though he's one of the oldest in Suju, he's always up to goofing around, even if he ends up being the butt of jokes. But he's also someone that doesn't like to be alone and will sorta cling to his fellow members. One time he apparently got the master hotel key from the manager and slept in each member's room for 10 minutes a night. (The philtrum thing mentioned above? Suju has talked about him sneaking in their rooms at night just to touch their philtrums lol) He has said he bought his first turtle Ddangkoma because he was feeling lonely, but felt lonier once he realized turtles couldn't respond back to him. He ended up getting two more turtles to join his first one, Ddangkkoming and Ddangkkomaeng. Although he recently had to give up Ddangkoma since she became too big; on Kiss the Radio he talked about her and said "
In 80 years let's meet again. I'm really sorry to send you away."
Fun fact: Yesung was once
mistakenly identified in a Swiss tabloid as Kim Jong Il's third son. His real name is the same as Jong Il's son, and apparently the magazine failed to make an effort in researching before printing Yesung's picture in their article. Oh, and for shits and giggles, check out the definition for his
name on Urban Dictionary.
Kangin
real name: Kim Youngwoon (Kangin in hanja means "strong benevolence")
pronunciation: Kang-in; first syllable similar to "kong" with an "ah" sound replacing the "o", second syllable like the word "in"
birthdate: January 17, 1985 (Seoul, South Korea)
animal hat:
bullvegetable: N/A
sub-groups: Super Junior-T, Super Junior Happy
Korea's #1 Most Handsome Guy--according to himself. If Eeteuk is the mother of Super Junior, then Kangin would be the father who loves to embarrass his kids by constantly trolling them. He'll pants them, bully and tease, but in a affectionate yet masculine way that says I Am A Manly Man (But I Love You).
Kangin is easily the most macho of the group. If something involved showing off strength he is totally up for proving how good he is at it.
He will still put on a dress if need be, though. He's a very touchy-feely person, protective of his bandmates, and a total softie despite being Mr. Macho. He loves to talk--he won't shut up--and he is completely terrible at keeping secrets. Apply some pressure to him and he will spill everything.
Besides Super Junior, Kangin has worked as an actor, and been a host on many variety shows and music and radio programs. For a short while he was on We Got Married with actress Lee Yoon-Ji as his "wife".
In September of 2009 he was arrested for getting involved in a fight between two men (which was later proven to be a case of self-defense on his part), and in October of the same year he was involved in a drunk driving accident where he later turned himself in to the police. SME had all of his public appearances canceled for the rest of the year. By the time of the release of Suju's fourth album, Kangin had still yet to reappear in Suju activities. He revealed he would instead be serving his mandatory 2 years in the army in order to
mature and become a better person, although it might have been partially out of shame. He enlisted on July 5, 2010, and will end his military service in 2012.
Shindong
real name: Shin Donghee (Shindong taken from his surname and first character of his birthname; also means "child prodigy")
pronunciation: Shin-dong; first syllable like "shin" as in the body part, second syllable like "gong" with a "d" in place of the "g"
birthdate: September 28, 1985 (Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang, South Korea)
animal hat:
pigvegetable:
mushroomsub-groups: Super Junior-T, Super Junior Happy
He may not look it, but Shindong is one of Super Junior's four lead dancers.
Seriously. He evens helps out with group choreography. Besides dance, he is one of Suju's rappers. He also makes an
amazingly fierce lady.
Before becoming a trainee he won several dance contests, and in 2005 he took grand prize for Best Comedian in the SM Best Youth contest, which earned him a contract with SME. Shindong is a very funny person, and this has made him a very popular MC on variety programs and radio shows. On Strong Heart he is a part of hilarious
Teukigayo segment. Currently he is a DJ on ShimShimTapa with KARA member Park Gyuri.
Defying one of the unwritten rules of boy bands ('Thou shall not have a girlfriend lest batshit fans complain' or whatever), he proposed to his long time girlfriend and is now engaged. On his "Thanks To..." page of Suju's fourth album he left a coded marriage proposal message for his girlfriend. Apparently fans figured out the message before his girlfriend did. A definite marriage date is unknown at this point.
Sungmin
full name: Lee Sungmin
pronunciation: Sung-min; first syllable like the word "sung", second syllable similar to the first syllable of "Minnie"
birthdate: January 1, 1986 (Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea)
animal hat:
cowvegetable:
pumpkinsub-groups: Super Junior-T, Super Junior Happy, Super Junior-M
First impression that fans get of Sungmin is that he is the most adorable, aegyo filled person there is. Which is pretty true, but be warned: he can totally kick your ass with his martial arts skills.
Sungmin is rather overlooked in terms of popularity since, when it comes to his role in Suju, he's not known as being The Best Singer or The Best Dancer as others members are. But honestly, he's the most well-rounded member of Super Junior. He's one of the main vocalists, is a good dancer, and a very steady-going person. He's not really phased by anything, and typically on variety shows he's content to sit back and let the other members shine.
His favorite color is pink ,and while he likes being cute he emits such an intensity
when performing with staff and nunchucks, two weapons he is specialized with. Another talent of his is with languages; he's quite skilled in Japanese, and with his inclusion in Super Junior-M he is picking up Mandarin rather well. He can also play a variety of instruments including the guitar and the piano. Sungmin is also apparently quite knowledgeable when it comes to wine.
Outside of Suju he has participated in musicals, such as Hong Gil Dong, and acted in dramas, the most recent being President. For a short while he was a DJ on Reckless Radio, replacing Kangin. The upcoming Jack the Ripper musical will be his latest activity outside of Suju.
Eunhyuk
real name: Lee Hyukjae ("Eun" meaning silver, so Silver Hyuk)
pronunciation: Uhn-yuk; first syllable pronounced like the "oon" sound in "soon", second syllable like the word "yuck"
birthdate: April 4, 1986 (Neunggok, Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea)
animal hat:
anchovyvegetable:

Super Junior's
Dancing Machine, Eunhyuk is one of the lead dancers as well as the lead rapper. He failed his first audition with SME, but passed the following year based on his rapping and dancing skills. He was originally placed in a R&B trio with Sungmin and future DBSK member Kim Junsu, but they were disbanded and he and Sungmin were placed in the group of trainees who would become Super Junior.
Eunhyuk is generally
full of fail and an easy target for teasing by his fellow bandmates. He's the gullible type who tends to fall for pranks, which makes him variety show gold. But he's also soft hearted and usually one of the first to cry. Eunhyuk's physical transformation from debut to now is a bit of a mindfuck; who knew
this would turn into
this. The boy known for his
gummy smile and who is constantly thrown under the bus for his smelly feet becomes so smooth while dancing on stage.
Seriously, he has amazing
dance skills. He writes the rap lyics for a majority of Suju's songs and also choreographs some of their dance routines along with Shindong and Donghae.
He has co-hosted Kiss the Radio (SUKIRA) with Eeteuk since 2006 and they've celebrated five years on air. When placed in Super Junior-M he took a 3-month break from KTR to focus on promotions in Taiwan, but has recently returned back as co-host. Another member known for his MC skills, Eunhyuk is a permanent guest on Star King and Strong Heart, the latter of which he participates in the popular Teukigayo comedic trio with Eeteuk and Shindong.
