From the Introduction to Mike Kunkel's Herobear and the Kid

"Remember your childhood and pass it on." In a world where remembering your childhood often leads to years of therapy, Mike Kunkel's simple, poignant message asks you to find something...magical in your "Wonder Bread years".
So, when I agreed to write this introduction, I took him at his challenge and remembered something I had forgotten long ago.
When I was somewhere between the age of one and yesterday, I had an imaginary friend. Friends, actually, since I guess even then I didn't think small. They were called "The Boys and the Bears". They followed me around, come with me in the car, and sat with me at dinner table. One particular day i came running into the house and my mother closed the door behind me. I burst into hysterical tears and my mother, being my mother, thought she'd somehow slammered my finger in the door. No, it was far worse. She had locked out the Boys and the Bears! So, being my mother, she opened the door and much to my relief, my friends rushed in and all was good in the world.
